Posted on 19/06/2019 21:27 byIn my younger days I found it usually impossible to get into a club site of choice at popular holiday period and more often than not used CLs instead, partly out of necessity and partly due to cost in spite of my being better able than most to afford to pay club rates.
These days we are well able to afford the rates and with Internet booking stand a very good chance of reserving the odd night we might need but as a matter of principle we will not pay £25 - £30 a night for a basic site when the following days "over there " (ridiculous expression so popular among CT users) we will pay half as much for more.
We go where we want and stay where we want with little or no regard for price (don't even know the nightly rate where we are just now ) in the knowledge that when we decide to leave it's going to be nothing like the cost of a CAMC pitch. These sites are not run on a shoestring using underpaid staff and there has to be another answer to the disparity in rates.

I think your post speaks volumes about club sites at peak times even in your "younger days" being full with people maybe less able than you (your post)to pay for them, you then try to compare what you do now with today's costs at club sites which is compleatly out of context

Posted on 19/06/2019 21:24 by ChrissieRWow, so many replies 😉 The sites concerned are Morn Hill and Rookesbury, the prices are for two adults 😄

The two sites are like chalk and cheese as far as club site are concerned, and Morn Hill being a site that is in serious need of an upgrade (hence the pricing)but will not have the necessary money invested until the local council who own the top half and is on an annual lease, have stopped sitting on their hands as to whether they are going to use it for a traveller site or sell/give long lease tothe club

If club sites are full in peak periods, then the rate charged can be justified. If they are not full then the charge will probably be too high although there are other factors at work.
The sites do not make massive profits so the prices must reflect the running costs although more popular ones do apparantly subsidise some less popular ones. The clubs accounts can be seen by all of us in the magazine and there is no evidence that I can see of profiteering in them.

agreed, we all have our own levels of 'value' and it's pretty obvious that AD, and some others who tour away from Club sites feel they get it elsewhere....
of course we can all find an example of a site (anywhere) that is 'expensive' just to make a point...I've been to Concierge Camping, just for the hell of it as I was in the Chichester area...it was great, we loved it, whould I go back at the prices they charged? possibly, but certainly not regularly....too expensive to be great 'value' for us, although it may be for others.
club sites are lower priced and may be perceived as giving better 'value' than a site like Concierge....however, when compared to the sort of site AD and others make use of regularly, IMHO the club is a long way behind in what it delivers for the money.
yes, I use them from time to time, but touring (for the length of time we do) would be mightily expensive on club sites, whereas we get much more in the way of facilities when away and for around 50-60% of the price.
after three months away the return ferry costs amount to about £3 a day, this is easily matched (and well beaten) by the site savings.....
so 'value' at home on CC sites, not for us ...
