National Trust Resolution Upcoming

I know that a lot of Members and Forum users are, like us Members of The National Trust. This October’s Trust AGM includes a Resolution to ban Trail Hunting on National Trust land, and as such I wanted to highlight this issue and bring it to the attention of any Trust Member who might not be aware.

Its not for me to urge anyone to make up their minds about which way to vote, if Members do choose to vote. There is a lot of information out on the internet on different websites in terms of what trail hunting is, how it is conducted, who controls it, and the myriad of issues surrounding it. Those of you who are Members will have received full details in the AGM literature included with your latest NT magazine, and how to vote either online, or by post. For information, and an easy option to make your vote count, below is the link to enable Members to vote securely. You will need to log in using your NT membership number.

I hope that like us, many will do the research, make an informed decision, and cast their vote accordingly. My post is merely to bring attention to this important issue, I have no intention of debating hunting on here, as I know it can get very emotive, and the last thing I want is this information to go missing. Others may want to discuss it, but please in that case, open a new thread😁

Agree - I don't think it's a town v country matter to be honest. I suppose I might be considered a "townie" now, living on the outskirts of what was, until recently, a small market town, but I was born and brought up in a tiny Wiltshire farming village and still consider myself more "rural" than "urban".

In a way this town v country idea is irrelevant. Members of the NT, which one has to pay for to join and open to anyone, voted and it was their decision was to ban trail hunting. Their organisation and their (and mine too) vote and choice. Yes the turnout might have been low but no matter as always in these things.

If those posters who are speaking against it feel so strongly then they should have joined the NT, gathered support and got the result they thought was the correct one?

And really this only affects NT land, not the whole countryside.

Lets hope the exec ignore this woke agenda. What next from smallish pressure groups. Ban cycling, dog walking. Sell off any property with a connection to slavery. Totally lost its way. Wont comment on T v C as everyone knows my views.

so why didn't you join the NT and vote? And out of interest what are the nearest NT places to you and how will this vote perhaps affect you or anyone you know?

Does dog walking and cycling do harm to animals? Are there any such 'pressure groups'? I cycle and want to know just in case?

It's non binding and represents a small section of the members. If the NT finds anything illegal  happening on individual estates and land it's perfectly capable of sorting things on a local basis.

It’s all about not inflicting unnecessary suffering onto wildlife for me. Always has been. It’s perfectly possible to enjoy a good thundering gallop, enjoy all the fun, dressing up, rules etc.... without having to kill something at the end of it. That kind of mindset doesn’t belong in the 21st Century.

It has done Brue, and will do. They have suspended Trail Hunting before, in fact I think it is suspended at the moment because of the court trial that found a very senior member of the hunting fraternity guilty of encouraging others how to get around the current laws.

“Trail Hunting” was only devised as a means to circumnavigate the ban on hunting with dogs. Not to be confused with Drag Hunting.
