April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

Lets not get too carried away with reopening and unrestricted travel. This virus has shown itself to be superb at exploiting any weakness. We could find ourselves in deeper trouble if we act too soon. Leave it to the Government and advisors and lets be patient. As an aside the Dovey Project super place is ready at vast cost. However you will be better off at Clywedog reservoir where the pair there  have been nesting for much longer. Not only will you get tranquility you will have a good view of the nest and most days see them actually fishing. Just remember Welsh Covid rules and lockdown

Have just received this posting with photos from Keilder Ospreys:-

Y6 seen today at Tanji Marsh, in The Gambia.

2016 female Blue Y6, from Keilder Nest 2, was seen today by Bird Guide Fansu Bojang. Fansu has conducted a number of surveys at sites in The Gambia, and saw Y6 on his first visit to Tanji Bird Reserve last October.

Although he has visited the Reserve at times, this is the first time he has spotted her since October.

Y6 bred for the first time last year, at a nest with an established male in Perthshire. She raised two chicks with him. We hope they will be reunited in a few weeks from now, and have another successful year.

Had a look through the kitchen window this morning and saw something flying over our field so got binos and found it was an Osprey flying north so they are on their way.

Possibly as at present there are very warm winds coming from the south and last year I saw one going over whilst out for a walk and that was about a fortnight later just as well I always take my binos with me.

A lot of red kites are also flying over more than I have seen before but no black kites yet.

Will  keep an eye out for any more Osprey flying over.

Oh Thank you, Thank you, Thank you  --  I certainly need some good news today 'cos I'm watching the cricket and it gets soooo depressing  until the Athletics comes on at 9  !!  And it might be a close run thing, if the brakes come off, as to which gets to Loch Garten first ~~ Ospreys or twitchers  smile
