Best reads - Club Together Book Club?

I'm just about coming to the end of Deborah Moggach’s book, Heartbreak Hotel. I found it a very enjoyable read and very amusing. But what should I read next? Any recommendations?

I also wondered if anyone would be interested in a Club Together book club? According to a member survey earlier last year, reading is the most recurring leisure activity whilst caravanning. I know I’m a book worm and I’m sure there’s a few of us out there who enjoy a good read. Anyone interested or any suggestions?

Michael Connelly has a new Harry Bosch out this month called Two Kinds of Truth. Have asked library to get hold of one. Meantime am reading The Late Show, featuring a new detective, also by Connelly.

Having enjoyed the Victoria and Abdul film recently I'm also enjoying the book which became the film. Victoria and Abdul by Shrabani Basu, she had access to many historic papers and documents, including the Royal Archives.

Yes, same title, Wherenext. It's on kindle but I got a low cost paperback from amazon.

Thanks for the heads up on that, those Bosch books are some of my favourites. Will have to order it when I pop into the library tomorrow to pick up the latest Banks and Roy Grace books which are waiting for me! Also got the long awaited return of John le Carre's  George Smiley about to arrive. That job list Mrs M's given me is going to have to be put on hold for a while! wink

I'll be waiting for my copy of the Bosch book coming from our daughter, as she's the one to read them first. Must ask her if she's getting the The Late show too!! We'll wait for the Banks & Grace ones to appear on Kindle, I guess. I've just started the latest (3rd) book of short stories by Jeffrey Deaver, Trouble in Mind.

Our library has been "outsourced". A great bone of contention.

Anyway, we checked with them when we were in today and the new Bosch isn't on their radar yet. It was touted at the back of The Late Show book as coming out in October so may have been delayed or it may be the new "managers" of the library don't have a clue!

Is the Le Carre "The Legacy of Spies" M? Been waiting for that for a while now.

I haven’t been following this thread so apologies if these books have been mentioned before. Many people will have read Donna Tartt’s “The Goldfinch”, she is such a good writer and this lingers in the memory. Well, both my wife and I read her first novel, The Secret History, another superbly written, great novel. Highly recommended and such an antidote to the dozens of books I read this year which were distinctly average. My definition of a good read? ... you slow down because you don’t want it to end and when it does you go back to the beginning and start to flick through it.

Michael Connolly has a new series starting with The Late Show, with a night shift LAPD Detective, Renee Ballard. Has anyone read it yet?

Yes, I've just finished it. Very good. Up to his normal standards.
