As the other (Stay or go) thread appears to be locked, I've started this one. There is no specific subject matter so hopefully everyone can continue to update others as to what's happening in their lives and areas. I live in the suburbs (but hope to move to rural Northumberland in next few years) and found it really illuminating to hear how those living in rural areas are being affected by issues such as tourists and lack of access to shops etc

The NHS volunteer service goes live today:

Professionals will be able to upload tasks in their areas for the volunteers to enable the delivering of prescriptions, food, or to phone the at risk for a chat etc.

Well let's hope that it works OK.  Mrs M applied the morning after it was launched, filled in the online application,  attached her up to date DBS certificate (she has been visiting one of our local primary schools) and contacted our car insurers (which is a compulsory action for applicants) to make sure our policy would be valid.

So far she has heard absolutely nothing! frown

I have had the complete opposite, my application was verified by the police and other parties 5 days ago, allowing me to follow a link provided by Email to finalise it. Downloaded the Responder App and I am shown on the map along with others nearby.

I guess it's down to the sheer numbers applying. In the meantime she's signed up with a local group anyway. Will wait to hear more! smile

Anyone else had any email from Tesco about critical vulnerable and isolated people. Apparently they one have 75,000 currently on their books?

My advice is to log in to Tesco online at around 11.50pm. This seems to be when they open the queue for booking a slot. Some evenings I have given up after 12.10am, as I am not desperate for a delivery, but last night it was only 12.01 when I got access. That was a mere one minute after slots opened, normally at midnight. Our Tesco are still showing three week in advance slots, however, our local Asda you can only try and get a slot or a pick up seven days in advance. Morrison’s is impossible, we have no Sainsbury’s or Waitrose close by, so I don’t bother with the last three.

If you get into the Tesco queue, your page refreshes automatically, so you don’t have to do anything until it comes up, book a slot. Put a few items in basket, check out, and the you can sort rest out at anytime you want up to day prior to delivery. I have a Favourites list, so ten minutes of clicking and I have most of my shop in my basket. ๐Ÿ‘

Here is the meat of what Tesco emailed:

·         "Last Thursday, we were given an initial list of 110,000 clinically vulnerable and isolated people by the Government. From this list, we were able to match 75,000 existing customers – and we’ve already let them know we’re making home delivery slots available to them immediately. We’ll continue to work through this list, and, as we receive more data from the Government, we’ll make even more slots available.

·         We’ve increased our online delivery slots by 145,000 (+20%) in the last 2 weeks, with thousands more becoming available every day. We know it’s still difficult to get an online delivery slot due to high demand, so we ask those who are able to safely come to stores to do so. This will help free up more slots for the more vulnerable – so please think before you click.

·         As our stock levels start to return to normal, we’re removing the purchasing limits on the majority of products in our stores. We’ve kept limits on some essential lines such as toilet roll, pasta and hand sanitisers until our shelves are fully stocked again. But we’d still ask you to buy only what you need.

·         Many care homes have contacted us, asking to buy provisions for their guests. Booker, our wholesale business, is doing its very best to help these customers."

I would say we are not on the highly vulnerable list but definitely higher than just being 70 plus. Our doctor did ring us 10 days ago to check on us and offer some advice.

We are still keeping our heads down like many others and I have a click and collect booking on the 17th which should keep us ticking over.

I think some of the lottery might be geographical as well. Our Tesco doesn’t do click and collect, I would have to use a Sheffield๐Ÿ˜ฑ branch for that, a good 45 minutes away.
