Calor Gas have just issued a press release on the subject of Calor Lite and it's replacement. It also sets out to reassure current users of what cylinders they will be able to swap in the future. See Here

Surely you pay a £2 premium was per exchange so nothing to refund? The older style will be £2 cheaper to exchange so I suppose back to square one?

David - why do you always take the position of the "establishment"?

Tigerfish is quite right. I and most of us have paid a premium to use Calorlite. Why should we now not get our premium back?

I know - because they can. As usual, we get ripped off

I can't remember how much it was but I paid an extra premium to have the Lite cylinders. the 2 came to just under £140 as I didn't have any to exchange.

I don't think that is a fair comment.

David, as a moderator, has joined many of us in  mocking the Clubs fake news story  around the "book a hardstanding trial" and their suggestion that it caused "confusion", even though we all manage to choose between Economy, Awning, Non Awning & Serviced pitches.

I can't speak for him, but possibly what he meant was there is a small (about £2) premium for a 6kg Calor Light over an iron clad 6kg, when obtaining a refill.  I have certainly never paid an enhanced cylinder rental price, I think Calor Lites were (initially at least) handed out as straight swaps for ordinary 6kg propanes or 7kg Butanes.....?

I think that my comment was absolutely fair - but then I would wouldn't I? I do not post very often on this (or any other website) but it is obvious to me that David very often follows the "party line" of the suppliers such as Calor. How does he not understand that Calor charged us a premium for Calorlite when we could have had standard 6kg bottles for £2 less. We can now have standard bottles for £2 less - big deal - that was always the case

I repeat - as always we are being ripped off.

Wasn't I saying exactly the same thing?

I am not sure what party line there was to follow? For Calor Lite there has always been a £2 premium over the standard heavy bottle with the same amount of gas. I think everyone understands that. I was responding to a post that suggested a refund was in order which didn't make sense when we all know the extra £2 is for the exchange and use of that cylinder whilst the gas lasts. When you come to exchange you have the choice of having another Lite or standard but if you take the Lite the exchange price is £2 extra.

If we were talking about the original hire contract and there was a difference in price then working on a reducing scale I would imagine you would get slightly more for handing in a Calor Lite.

Whether or not David follows the party line (and I think he does) the fact is that Calor are taking us for a ride

I have a Calorite for which I paid a premium of £2 to replace. Now, we are expected to replace our propane cylinders without receiving any recompence for the fact that we have previously paid a premium.

So, who is ripping off who?

Your argument does not seem logical to me. I think most of us were given the lite as a replacement for the standard, no new contract, just a higher refill price. I certainly did not have to take the lite, it was my choice. The higher refill price was I assume justified by the increased cost of maintaining the cylinders. In effect I was paying extra for the use of the cylinder whilst I used it. So why if I switch back to the standard should I get a refund. Refills of the standard are to remain less than the lite as far as I am aware.

When I purchased my 2 Calorlite last year the cylinder hire charge was higher than a standard one. See Here.

So when I change it and can't change it like for like, I think Calor should refund me the difference on the hire charge (£5 for each one) or at least give me a voucher to swap back in the future when the new one is available or If I come across a supplier who still has stock. I paid a premium for something they have stopped producing.

I can't be sure, but it used to be you could only exchange a cylinder like for like  when you needed a refill.

Someone posted a link a few months ago to show which could be swapped for what and I noticed I can no longer swap my very tall slim one 47 kgs?  for a more manageable size as I don't use as much as I used to at home I might have swapped it for a 15 kg one which I think I did to get the 47kg one.  However they have lost me to Safefill!  You should definitely get your premium back if there aren't enough Lites around - but I think you might be lucky!

You paid extra to use a lighter container, you have used it and reaped the 'benefits' but you want that benefit money back undecided At most you should get a one off exchange price (the initial cost from steel to lightweight)
