  1. Has anyone any ideas on how to cope with the problem we have with loose graval surfaces on some pitches. Many pitches have various materials such as crushed slate rough graval of various shapes and sizes or pebbles, abviously this is for good drainage and is eviromentaly important however, we find that the small wheels on my husband mobility scooter just don't work very well, they tend to dig into such materials rather than move over. We would welcome any suggestions obout perhaps some kind of portable matting or mesh that could be easyly roll out for the short distance between the van and the paved road. We are both a little unsteady on or feet and such surfaces can also  be a bit challanging. We would be grateful for any useful ideas. Jan.

And yet it’s probably the most popular site on the network

Only for those who don't know that Beechwood Grange York is a much better, much nicer site. .  (Except for dog owners, who are not allowed to walk their dogs out of the site).. In conclusion, it is because of this, that dog owners go down market and flood into Rowntree park, giving a false indication of popularity. --- Incidentally it's not only dog owners who flood Rowntree park, the river Ouse has a habit of doing exactly the same thing. laughing

The CMC's obsession with boring grey gravel makes the use of Mobility scooters on their sites very challenging.  frown

Rowntree Park is popular because of its proximity to central York. Basically a tree lined car park with well kept hedges, a set up much beloved of a great many of members. You park up, you holiday, simple as that. Nothing wrong with it either. At over £34 per night, if you have a touring outfit, it's still a cheap way of staying in central York. Cheaper still if you Camp, the tent area looked very nice, private, grass, little slabs to put a BBQ on. Beechwood Grange is on edge of outer ring road, at one of busiest roundabouts in area. You could walk in, but it would take a while, and a mobility scooter would need recharging! Failing that, you need to use P+R.

Those rolls of artificial grass are indeed dog friendly, better than the damage our Lab inflicted on himself on the steel slag! A good investment for anyone who is a regular on Club Sites with a dog.

Is it an option to change the wheels on the mobility scooter, perhaps to a slightly wider ones that might cope better?  Unfortunately there are not many easy alternatives to granite or gravel surfaces, except perhaps the rather nice paved pitches they now have at Tewkesbury. Perhaps one option the Club could think about is for the wardens to have some sort of mobile matting they could use when requested?

This could be an option , from towsure ,part number G28, they are approx. 30inch's long and £9.00 pair , two tied together would give about 5ft of track

They certainly work with our jockey wheel at our storage compound, where the gravel is deep and soft. I would think they would work even better on the more compacted gravel of the pitches. We have never used them on site, as the jockey copes OK.

Might be worth looking at Streetwize floor tiles we have been known to use them for my wife's scooter.

they come in packs of 4x 60cm tiles for about £15 from go outdoors

you can peg them down so that they don't move.

sorry cant get the link to work!

They look similar to the tiles Aldi sell a couple of times a year, but are grass printed, rather than green, blue or black like Aldi's. They are much more expensive for half the area, you get eight tiles in an Aldi pack. We used them at bottom of our steps on gravel at York, created a more comfy sitting area for dogs. Quite a few folks at York were using them.
