So - answering the OPs question, "Manual or Auto" - seems very valid to differentiate between torque converter (slush auto), CVT, DCT and single speed (EV) smile. Not splitting hairs at all wink

EV single speed is good. Many torque converter autos are good (XC90) some are not (Grand voyager). CVT and DCT are open for more feedback?

Two pedal driving vs three pedal driving (manual) is nice, but down to personal preference.

in answering the original man vs auto, I agree with you. I've linked to an Ozzie version of Clarkson a few times re his Youtube describing how to break the various types. However I said you were splitting hairs when you said that BEV were not auto because they don't have gears.

Off to look for the video .....

Once driving schools are all using EV's, there will soon be a generation that will be precluded from driving manual vehicles.

But there will be so few manual cars it is likely to be irrelevant and perhaps the requirement to take a specific test in a manual car.
Factoid. When the B+E test was a thing.  If you took the test with an automatic vehicle. Then it entitled you tow with an automatic,  but it upgraded your licence to drive a manual car solo .  Go figure.

I knew that if you took your  'towing test' in an auto, you could only then tow with an auto.

Fair enough, it's true that they have a similar driving model (two pedals and a "shifter"). But that is pretty much where the similarity stops. The shifter doesn't shift, you only need one pedal much of the time, and the gears - well just aren't.

It's pretty good isn't it. As Chocolate Tree was implying, not all autos are equal .... some are more equal than others 😉😉
