Ease of arrival/welcome

A difficult one to quantify!

Stayed two nights at 216 Lane End. It has a strange entrance down a side road between residential properties which, after a couple of hundred yards turns into the CL. Pitches are set along one side of the track in and a grassed area with trees on the other. The pitches are pretty level but quite rough being laid with what looks like compacted hardcore. Each pitch has EHU and a dustbin and the pitches back on to an orchard and what appears to be the owners garden. The other two sides of the site have pleasant views across fields and on one evening we were treated to a couple of deer wandering past. There is a water point behind the pitches but access with a motorhome isn’t possible if the nearest pitches are occupied so make sure you have means of carrying water to your unit. Behind the water point there are rubbish bins and the chemical disposal point. Unfortunately, probably the worst CDP I’ve ever used; just a manhole cover which when lifted shows what has been deposited previously and smells. There is traffic noise but it does fade into the background. Trains also pass the site but again this wasn’t too much of a problem and it all quietens down at night. Although dogs are allowed they’re not to be exercised on site so it means walking off the site to do so. Fortunately, within a few minutes walk there’s a track leading into the fields bordering the site and also, in the other direction, to a pleasant canal-side towpath which leads to two dog friendly pubs, The Jolly Boatman and The Boat and Annie’s Tea Rooms. There is a Co-op mini-market across the road from the site and also a bus stop where the bus to Oxford stops. The site is currently being looked after by the son of the owner who was very friendly when we met him and the site is in a great spot for exploring the Cotswolds around Banbury, Chipping Norton and Oxford but it just feels a little neglected and run down which is a shame as it could be a gem.

Dear Forest Gate

Just a reply to your comments on our site. This year we have decided to put in 2 new hardstanding pitches ,when you arrived on the site pitch 4 and 5 which are the new pitches were half way to being finished. So this is why the 2 picthes only had hard core and weren't finished. So I apologize for that. As far as the Elsan point goes its dated and it does need changing in the future which we are looking into. There is also a hosepipe on a reel that is available for anybody to use just behind the gate. And I am also only short distance away if you have any problems. My number is on the notice board. I hope you enjoyed your stay and hope see you again. Let me know if i can help in anyway.
