£12 a night for London

we were a bit worried about driving into London so chose to arrive on a Sunday, but we need'nt of worried it was easy to find and with the owners directions arrived safely. We parked at the end of the field and we were very private, plenty of room. the chem waste is a bit awkward to use and it could do with a few nettles and thistles pulling out, the pipe to rince the toilet doesn't reach the toilet. The owner was welcoming and her dogs were no problem to us. The trip into London was easy and we walked it in 20mins and we are 70 years old. but don't be tempted to take what looks like a short cut as we did, only to find it put a extra 20 mins walking time on, stick to the main road to traffic lights, turn right stay o main road to station. prices for all day travelo is £11.50 before 9.30 and £8 after. We had a great time in London and no problems with the tube.

would return

finding the site is easy, entering it the same. paid and set up swiftly and easily.the weather was wet so were put on a hard standing area. previous comments are very harsh as this area is better than stated and not just a dumping ground as some made it sound. the gravel is very loose though and gets all in the van but not a problem. there are peahens and geese everywhere as well as free roming dog that poos everywhere and the birds squork ALL night. these also come right upto the vans. also, although not on a major road was noisy with cars all night long.....not a good nights sleep but then you are in london!!! not really close to much of interest in itself, few shops about 10 mins walk, pub/restaurant right outside the gate though. tube is about a half hour walk with 2 kids at an easy pace. i would reccommend buying a travel card as you can then board the trains, tubes buses etc as you please as otherwise you have to mess about with pre payment things (oysters) and top them up.....they not cheap to do so either but the trasvel cards are £8 and free kids to age 10 inclusive. i would reccommend wellies for on site especially for kids. we were allowed to stay til 2pm on the pitch or move the van to off the pitch but leave it there til' what ever time we liked if we wanted to go into london etc. the lady is nice on site, you get a leaflet on arrival with local info and an underground map. it was a great site for the money but tranquil it was not would definitely reccommend for those looking to go into london

Underrated and definitely a CL to recommend

We stayed at this CL for a weekend as part of a visit to Central London. The community rating for this CL is very misleading. This is at least a four star CL, easy to get to and at £10 very reasonably priced with hard standing and EHU. The owner Shirley is lovely, efficient and helpful. It is a 20-25 minute stroll to Newbury Park tube station but in a safe area; and then on the Central Line into London. The A12 is just down the road if you are driving into East London or on elsewhere. If you just want to stay on site, there is a pub/restaurant right next door. The site was quiet and peaceful when we were there with a couple of other friendly visitors. The semi-rural setting, including peacocks and geese, is pleasant and relaxing. Altogether this is one to recommend and we will certainly be visiting and staying there again.

Pleasant conveniently located site

We stayed at this site to visit the Paralympics. When we booked the owner explained she would be opening additional paddocks and charging £25 and made sure we understood and were happy with this before accepting our booking. After reading the other reviews we were a little concerned but should not have worried. The owner telephoned to apologise that she would not be there when we arrived but gave us a telephone contact in case of need. When we arrived we found a spacious CL. In addition there was a paddock beyond the CL, some hardstandings in the yard and two further grassed areas on the other side of the drive. We accept that the hardstandings were not very attractive but the grassed areas were pleasant, well kept and certainly not crowded. The owner called on us the next morning but we had already left for an early start in the Olympic Park. She left us a note, a sheet of information and a tube map - all very helpful. The site was very well placed for visiting the Olympics, and indeed anywhere in London, being a 20 minute walk to the tube station. It was also on the edge of pleasant countryside with walks available from the site. By opening these extra areas more people were given the opportunity to visit the Olympics at a modest cost of £25 - where else would we have found accommodation in London at this price and at this time? Other people we spoke to on site seemed quite happy as indeed were we. We would certainly recomend this CL as a base for visiting London.

Overcrowded and surely not a CL?

My understanding of a CL is a small site for 5 units only, that is exclusive to Caravan Club members only. We stayed at this site 5th and 6th of August 2012, for the purpose of going to the Olympics. We booked 14 months earlier; this £10 a night CL suddenly charging £25 a night! (We understand that people want to benefit from the Olympic Games being held in London...) The price increase aside we expected, for our money, a quiet site with 4 other units. Although we had a friendly welcome, what we found was an incredibly busy site; we were placed on a hard-standing pitch next to the field which was unsightly and scrappy. The field itself looked nice but already had 9 caravans and motorhomes on it. We were joined on our gravel pitch by another caravan whose view was then a brick wall. Opposite us was an industrial unit with an office, parked cars and behind it 3 more caravans and another camper (4 in total). On the main Road opposite the farm house was another small field with 4 more units crammed in and behind another farm building there appeared to be even more caravans. All of these were using the 1 water tap (by our caravan) and 1 chemical disposal point (an old toilet). To add insult to injury for our £50 stay, we found a note in our awning asking us to leave by 10.30am. Presumably to rush even more units into their money-making couple of weeks. However, judging by the old electric hook-ups, it would appear they regularly have more than 5 units on this site. Some of the pitches look like permanent pitches possibly for workers in the small industrial unit. All in all we were incredibly disappointed and would never, ever use this site again. We wouldn't recommend it and I sincerely hope that the Caravan Club remove it from their list of CL's. This was a flagrant abuse of it's location.
