Two Nights in May

I seem to be the only one leaving reviews for this site? We've been here many times now. One of our favourites and so handy for London. Electric hook-up, fresh water and a CDP are what you get. Lovely grass paddock to pitch in with peahens and peacocks wandering around. Hope to stay again soon.

December in Aldborough

Hard-standing was jam-packed with three units on, so risked the grass, despite the skid-marks where some other poor soul had struggled. Come the morning, no problem. It was soft under-foot, but the field is obviously drained well. An excellent site, very handy for trips into London and a very good pub right next door.

Great CL

This was our second visit to this gem of a CL in London - both times to visit the Olympic velodrome. Once to ride round it (highly recommended) and this time to watch the World Cup. As it was at the beginning of a wet December the field itself was very soft and the two proper hardstandings were already occupied. But as the track into the field is good and hard and quite long we parked our motorhome on that - set well back so that other vehicles could get in and out if necessary. A brilliant place to get into London - we cycled in on London Cycle network recommended roads and it was fine. Last time we stayed in summer and had a lovely walk around the Fairlop Country Park. It really doesn't feel as though you are so close to the big smoke!

Visit No. 4 to Aldborough Hall

All good, as usual. Nice, friendly welcome. We got the tube into London this time; around 30 mins to walk (briskly) to Newbury Park station. Barkingside is a lot closer, but involves short-cuts across the golf course - not to be tackled at night. The peacocks were as bold as ever, though they've shed their plumage at the moment. Looking forward to our next visit.

London Camping... Continued... Again!

Our third stay at Aldborough Hall Farm. All good, as before. The brown Labradors seem to be more under control now. The camping field was spotless. We went for a nice circular walk from the site round the local Nature Reserve/Golf Course passing a couple of rambling old farmsteads and stopping in at the neighbouring pub on the way back. They had a couple of ales on tap, very reasonably priced - definitely not London prices. Didn't eat there, though the menu looked very tempting. Look forward to staying again.

London Camping... continued

Our second stay at Aldborough Hall Farm, this time in mid July. the birds were a bit friendlier this time, coming right up to the van to be fed. The two Labradors are still around and I noticed a couple of their droppings - not on my actual pitch, though. Otherwise an idyllic site; some noise from the adjacent road and stray planes on their way to Stanstead. Very quiet in the evening, though. Parked by the barn this time and had a job getting the van level, but managed okay with a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and jiggery-pokery. Didn't see the owner, Ms Rudge, on this occasion (we saw her last visit - very friendly); but there is a local information sheet left out and a box to leave your payment in. Very thoughtful. Will be back.

visiting London but staying in the countryside

a very friendly welcome to this oasis of peace and countryside so close to London.  Only 25 minute walk to Newbury Park underground station on central line straight into London.   Good flat field away from road - and also some hardstanding if required.   Lovely peacocks strutting around the site.

London Camping!

Beautiful site 15 mins walk from Newbury Park tube station which takes you direct to Oxford Circus in 30-45 mins. £11 a night (£12 with an awning) for two people and EHU. No other facilities save a cold water tap and chemical waste point, both perfectly adequate. Peahens, peacocks, geese and ducks abound, so you won't need your alarm clock! Dogs are allowed - on leads; however, there were two, large Labradors wandering the site when I was there and I saw them defecating on the camping field at least once. Despite this I would stay again - I'll just check my pitch very carefully before parking!

great site for central London visits

this was an easy site to find and just off the A12 and was located next to an excellent pub/restaurant. several take aways 10 minutes walk up the road if needed. on arrival was greeted by several lovely peacocks that where walking around the site. the owner left several information leaflets in a perspex box near to the gate with a tube map. the tube is a 15 minute walk away to newbury park on the central line. the chemical waste point was satisfactory i have used much worse and the water point was easy to find.as mentioned in previous reviews the grass is a bit long and would really benefit from more regular cutting. my wife and i will certainly stay here again when doing a London weekend.

"We're going to London with the caravan". Yes, really!

I'm not sure how this has such a low member rating? It's an intriguing location that makes a weekend in London so much cheaper than it could be! We have stayed here a few times and love the way you can walk to the central line in 20 mins and be in central london within an hour of leaving the caravan. We also love the peacocks that will eat bird seed from your hand - quite surreal in this location. The grass is a bit long and bumpy and can be tricky when it is wet, but some hard standing is available. Driving the A12 with a caravan is not for the faint hearted, but pick the right time and it's ok. Quiet considering where you are. Owner is friendly and gives you useful information. The kids love the various birds in and around the barns. Sainsburys close by. We will keep coming back.
