Why not stay a while?

Just returned from a 6 night stay, having picked this CL due to the reviews. Good access to/from the A30 so lots of people just stop en route elsewhere for one night, but they're missing out! Very friendly owners who live just down the lane and pop up daily. Facilities are fine - yes, there are a couple of cobwebs but heck, you're in the country, get over it! On arrival, the comms tower at the entrance gate looks a bit off putting BUT don't let it put you off. You pitch up facing a fantastic view over fields (with a small flock of sheep) to Dartmoor and you can't beat it. By the end of our stay, the comms tower was like a homing beacon and we looked forward to seeing it after a day out visiting. The owner of the sheep sometimes comes up to work her collies with the sheep, which is very entertaining...your own personal 'one woman and her dogs', and she's a lovely lady too. I would avoid going through Okehampton itself as the website directions suggest and use the bypass, the Ashbury golf hotel nearby is well signposted so not a problem to find the caravan site. A nice walk which skirts the golf course is accessible from the site after a short walk down the lane (wide grass verge for most of it). The enclosed dog field on site is big enough for a sniff, business to be done and a zoomies, which both our lurchers Alfie and Lizzie enjoyed. My top tip would be to avoid Okehampton town at school kick out time (2.45 - 3.30pm) as parents seem to use the supermarket carparks for pick ups. There's a Co-Op (or Morrisons, can't remember) plus a Waitrose and Lidl in town so plenty of choice. We'll definitely be back as there are still plenty of places to visit in the area. Recommend Lydford Gorge for a shady walk, but be warned, your legs will ache by the end. Mrs Andy66
