Exceptional wee site

We stayed at Auchenwynd for a week , arriving about an hour ahead of arrival time but this was not a problem, the owners- Gavin and Sally were busy trimming hedges and cutting the grass. We pitched up and got settled then Sally came and introduced herself and showed us where everything was. We paid on arrival and were pretty much left to enjoy our holiday but they were always at hand at the farmhouse if we needed anything. The shower and toilet facilities are well kept, plenty hot water and a good shower too. This lovely site is a shining example of a CL, it is absolutely lovely, huge pitches, 3 hard standing and 2 grass , all beautifully laid out with fencing and hedges surrounding the site. A ten minute walk takes you into Maybole, a small town but with all the shops you need- a Co-op, Spar, bakers, butcher, cafes, etc and plenty good places to eat in the surrounding area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Auchenwynd, it felt like we’d been on holiday much longer than a week and therefore would have no hesitation in recommending this site to anyone visiting the area.

a gem and not to be missed

Beautifully kept site, big level pitches, fantastic shower, spotless toilets, books, magazines, information leaflets on shelf in the toilet/shower area. Easy access to all that is best in Ayrshire and a friendly sheep who just loves being stroked and makes a funny snoring noise! The owners are friendly and nothing is too much for them to make your stay as perfect as possible. The reason the overall rating is not 5 is because the 2 large gates are left open and it would be good if they had some sort of security code. We recommend.

Another enjoyable stay at Auchenwynd

This delightful little CL is starting to become a firm favourite with ourselves now. A well appointed site with lovely big and level pitches with really nice scenic views of the Carrick hills and surrounding area. Situated just two miles from Maybole, and easily accessible to the village for a Co-Op, Sparr and a few takeaway shops also. A good central location for visiting Girvan, Stranraer, Ayr and the surrounding coastline. A quiet and tranquil site where we both enjoyed good night's sleep and relaxation. We will certainly be looking to come back for another visit.

10 Days at Auchenwynd

On arrival at Auchenwynd we found the access to the site very good even with a twin axle van all the pitches are good and even, no problems levelling the van up. There are three hard standing and two grass pitches all with good views across thw Aryshire countryside. The sites location is good for visiting the many places of interest in the area. Culzean Catle, Dumfries House and Arran to name but a few. The owners ( Mr and Mrs Watson) were very helpful and friendly and the information about the area is very good. There is a heated toilet / shower room on site and easy access to water and elsan disposal. We will revisit the site and would recommend it to other club members.

Great little CL

This CL has been well thought out , 3 hardstandings and 2 grass pitches. You can pick your own pitch , first come first served ! Toilet shower block is clean and warm , only one of each but you lock the door on entry and the space is yours . Friendly welcome from Owner , you pay on arrival and then they leave you to it, but if you need anything they’re just yards away in the farmhouse. There’s loads to do in the area , we did a 5 mile walk from the campsite. Culzean Castle is a must and a day trip to Arran . If you fancy a meal out go to Kirkoswald just down the road to the Souters Inn , lovely but save room for their ice cream ! Sadly Maybole itself has little to offer other than a few shops but a good co-op . The town itself if typical of the small towns in the area which have suffered from lack of investment ....but you only have to drive through and you reach this lovely CL .

So glad my mother lives close to this hidden gem

This has got to rate amongst one of the most forward thinking CL's. On their website the owners say that they took all of the best things from the caravan sites they have visited themselves, and incorporated them into their own site. A peaceful site with very generous, level pitches allowing for views over some beautiful countryside. Nearby, you can visit Culzean Castle, spend hours on the Burns trail, get to the beach within 10 minutes. TV, mobile phone and Mobile Broadband reception are all strong. The onsite toilet / shower is kept very clean and water and waste disposal are also good. The site has a small playpark, resident friendly sheep and owls. There is a picnic table and barbecue available for use. Our only criticism of our time here was the weather, but the countryside allowed for local weather forecasting skills to increase - if you could see the hills in the distance,, the rain was on the way, if you couldn't see them, it was raining, (apologies to Henry Longhurst for pinching his Turnberry quote). So at the end of 10 days here, happily say that I am glad my mum lives close to here otherwise I would never have found it! Look forward to booking return visits! Hugh Kerr

Lovely Site

We only stayed one night here on our way back home from 4 weeks touring Ireland and it was just what we needed. The site is easy access from the A77, it is quiet and the facilities are lovely and clean. We were made very welcome by the owners so this is a definite site to revisit.
