Simply the Best

Paul and Lorna have a most beautifully situated, spacious and peaceful site in a wonderful part of the country on the edge of the Blackdown Hills. The views from the site, as far as Dartmoor are outstanding with the most amazing sunsets. The welcome is warm but not intrusive and the facilities are well maintained and always clean. Lunch or an evening meal at The Drewe a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive away is not to be missed. I agree with the previous reviewer that the access is not a problem. Yes, the approach road is narrow in places, as are most roads in Devon and yes, there are some potholes, as there are in most places nationwide. I don’t recognise “ high uncut hedges and banks …. with grass and moss growing up the centre in places”, or uncut hedges to the on-site access road, which itself is very short and clearly signed. Whilst we only have a campervan we cycle a lot from the site in all directions in the surrounding area and do notice the details of roads.

Excellent and Tranquil CL

We have been visiting Beer Farm now for 3 years several times a year which has included Christmas and New Year twice, as our son lives locally. It is such a beautiful peaceful site, Paul and Lorna are very welcoming but not intrusive. We love waking up to the cattle in the fields coming to say hello in the morning and at different times during the day, don't worry they don't disturb you they just like to say hello when they see you or our dog Freddy. The toilet's and other facilities are clean and tidy, although we mainly use our own. There are lots of different area's to visit including Exeter, Quantock Hills, Exmouth and the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth is a must visit with your dog, they have a lovely restaurant which is also dog friendly and a shop onsite, it is free admission but remember to leave a donation which is of course optional. There is Fordmore Farm shop just down the road which does lovely breakfasts and the local pub The Drew Arms is a must for Sunday Lunch or Christmas meal. The previous review mentioned access to the site, however if you follow the CC site advice and enter via Broadhembury we have never had any issues with the roads, yes some parts are narrow but this is the countryside, and yes there are some potholes but that is the same for most of the country so please don't be put off by the previous review as you will miss out on this lovely site! (We have a 25ft caravan). The views from the site are beautiful and it's a very peaceful place to visit, we have even managed to have spectacular fireworks displays on New Years Eve as you can see for miles, but no noise which was great as Freddy doesn't like them so it's a great escape if you have a nervous dog. This site will not disappoint those who are looking for peace and quite!

Very nice site, but appalling access roads

This is a very pleasant CL with good facilities and great views. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. Sloping pitches so levelling ramps are recommended. Unfortunately the approach roads to the site from both east and west are appalling bad. Narrow twisting roads littered with potholes, enclosed by high uncut hedges and banks and with grass and moss growing up the centre in places. Even the hedges on either side of the on-site access road were high and untrimmed. All leading to overworked suspension and multitudes of scratches and scrapes along both sides of our motorhome. Much as we liked the site we’re unlikely to return.

Peaceful & beautiful location

We stayed for 2 nights at this fab CL. So peaceful with great far reaching views. Easy access and very well organised. Friendly welcome from Paul and Lorna. Would definitely recommend if you want to a tranquil location with walks on the doorstep and a great pub (The Drewe Arms) within walking distance.

Lovely CL with great view

Thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay here. Beautiful location with fantastic views (weather dependent!), good facilities and lovely owners - friendly and helpful, interesting to chat to. Village with pub an easy 20 minute walk. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Tranquil site in a lovely setting

Just stunning. Just got home from 2 nights at this lovely CL. Great facilities with 2 separate toilets, one with an electric shower (£1-50 with an honesty box) Had washing & dish washing facilities. Grey water & an Elson point as well as electric hook up. Quiet site on a working farm and self service when you arrive so choose your own pitch. Caught up with Paul the owner later on to pay him. Good value for £16 per night. Farm eggs were available. Lovely countryside views and woke up to bird song. Pitches were sloping so needed our ramps. Nice stroll to the beautiful village of Broadhembury down the lanes. We enjoyed beer in the garden but didn’t eat at the pub. Fabulous walk up to hembury fort within 20 minutes if you don’t mind uphill and a small section of road. Worth it when you get there for stunning views and forest walks. Dog friendly. Will definitely recommend & return.

Just so quiet

Just returned from a three night stay in this fabulous location. Beautifully kept site with excellent facilities although we didn’t need to use the shower and toilets ourselves. Lorna is a charming host and so brilliant to have a CL that will take cards. Very straightforward journey, although as often with farm sites, a bit narrow access roads but with very few other vehicles, not a problem. The meal at the Drewe Arms last night was exceptional and not overly priced. Broadhembury village is very picturesque with an excellent and friendly shop and post office. Thank you very much for a lovely break.
