When does a cat become a dog

On our arrival we were greeted by 1) ” is that a dog in the car?” I explained that it was a cat and not a dog and was told that animals are not allowed, it says so clearly in the book. The handbook states that dogs are not allowed except one by permission. The owner said that is the fault of the CC because it says dogs but should be animals. Now you are here I suppose you can stop but make sure the cat stays inside. She is a house cat and always does. 2) no groundsheets at all because breathable ones are as bad as the others. We normally have breakfast in the awning but due to the dew, the ground was too wet and sludgy, groundsheets prevent the dew . The grass was meadow grass not cut particularly short. 3) if it gets wet, can you put your car in the car park – 75 yards from our van. !! 4)I then realised it was an adults only site which was my fault. I asked if my son and daughter in law with their 11 year old son could come to site to pick us up to go for a meal, they would not be stopping more than 30 mins. Yes if he stays in the van, adults only applies to visitors also. Having travelled 4 hours to get here I was really happy with this greeting especially when we saw that the van next to us had two dogs. My son arrived on Tuesday at 17.00 hrs and we had a table booked for 18.00 nearby. Mrs Upton came running down the site and said “I said they could come one night not every night.” We were all amazed and just looked at her. They came last night and now again tonight. “No this is the first and only time, they live 40 mls away”. We had to then listen to more site rules with no apology for her actions. When we got back it was dark and the only caravanner on site was out flying his radio controlled helicopter. Our grandson asked if he could go and watch, but we said no as it was an adults only site Whilst we were out next day another van came in but the owner had no tow ball on. The site owner sat with them for 2 hrs. He later started hitting plastic balls with a golf club. Neither of these things would normally bother me but having all the rules thrown at me I thought was too much and we left a day early (7 nights)paying £1 /night for our cat. £16/night in total. We have been caravanning for 42 yrs most of that time in the CC and used over 180 CLs. For 20 yrs our previous cat stayed at more than 100 CLs and our present one has stayed at 15 CLs. Never has anybody made them unwelcome, more the opposite - fussing them and we never had to pay. I suppose from the comments people do enjoy this site, personally we found too many rules which the owner herself has difficulty keeping, so why have them. Comments from 2 previous reports show that they both had dogs. A holiday should be relaxing, not constantly looking over ones shoulder.

Comment from Community Team:

Many thanks for your review. The CL owner has contacted us as she wishes to address your concerns as she works very hard to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time at Birch Trees Farm. The CL owner completely understands people have families that they wish to see and wanted to do her best to accommodate your requirements. However, people do book to stay on their site specifically because it is adult only and as such if children are on the site, regardless of whether they are staying or visiting, this can understandably cause complaints as the CL site is clearly listed as an adult only site on the website and handbook. Normally the CL Site does not accept cats but as you had travelled so far she was happy to make an exception on this occasion. The CL owner works really hard to keep the CL Site, including the lawn, in immaculate condition, as you can see from the pictures. This is why the CL owner asks people not to use a ground sheet but this does not normally cause any problems as the lawn is regularly maintained. If it rains cars are parked on the hard standing so as not to ruin the condition of the lawn. Finally I would just like to clarify the price is £14 per night. I hope this helps address your concerns and thank you again for leaving a review.
