Wonderful site

We spent two weeks at this location earlier this year. Our welcome from the owners was warm and friendly and they always had time for a chat or to answer questions. From the site you can access both walking and cycling routes so you don't even need to bother with your car a lot of the time. However, it's also well suited to touring the Western Lakes, being within easy reach of the breathtaking Wastwater, and Ennerdale, and you could also access Buttermere, Crummack and Bassenthwaite if wanted, but there's so much to do within a very short distance, we spent our time locally. The site is within easy reach of the pretty village of Ravenglass where you'll find the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, which opens up stunning scenery and as many walks as you could possibly want, using the train to facilitate many of them. For the not-so-energetic, the railway provides those lovely views plus cafes and, within a short walk, pubs, at each end of the line. For sea lovers, it's not far to the coast at St Bee's or the small coastal town of Seascale, where at low tide there's a large expanse of hard sand ideal for dog-walking, as well as the estuary at Ravenglass. Plenty of pubs in the area, at Gosforth and Santon Bridge, as well as further afield. Gosforth also has a well-stocked general store and a lovely bakery. There's another general store at the garage in Holmrook, where you can also buy petrol and gas, and a craft and souvenir shop very close to Santon Bridge. I had no problems with a phone signal (my provider piggy-backs onto O2) We don't have a radio or television, so I can't personally comment on the TV reception but I note other reviewers have said not a problem and the owners were confident the signal was good. Finally, for those who prefer hard standings, there are two very generously sized ones, in addition to the grassed area, ideal for larger camper vans maybe. All in all, great, and thank you again for our lovely stay.
