Wonderful weekend and a warm welcome

Just returned from a wonderful weekend at Casthorpe. Surprisingly, despite it being a bank holiday, on my second day, I had the site to myself. I was greeted by Helen and given a map to borrow and also an extra hook up cable, as mentioned by previous reviewers. The water and waste are near the gate, so if you have a motorhome it is easier to fill up prior to visiting, although a hose can be run from the tap. When leaving, it is not possible to drive over the waste so a bucket sufficed. The ground is rough hardstanding and when it rained heavily, it took a while for the water to drain away, although none of the pitches were flooded. It is about a 10 minute walk along roads to the canal, although there is a closer short cut across a field, which was very muddy. There are many walks around the vicinity of the canal, in all directions and there is also a walk up onto the hill, called Surprise View, overlooking the site but that will have to wait until next time. Barrowby is just along the road if provisions are required and there is much to explore in the area for a longer visit. The Dirty Duck pub is worth a visit and is about a 30 minute walk along the canal. Within a few minutes of arriving, I watched a resident kestrel hunting in the paddock next door and this was followed by a roe deer. I will never again think of Lincolnshire as being flat and boring - this was beautiful and I will be returning soon!
