We have just spent a few days for the first time at this long established CL. We had a great, peaceful time with weather much better than forecast. The CL is rectangular field, flat at the top, then gently sloping down towards the river. It is immediately adjacent to the residual mound of Fotheringhay Castle and there is access to the river bank (short walk available) via a gate at the lower end of the site. There are views down to the river from most parts of the site. The field is kept mown and full recycling facilities are available. The only downside about the facilities is that the loo rinsing tap is some distance from the disposal point. A very peaceful location with an abundance of bird life, including Red Kites hovering low immediately overhead and geese, ducks, a Heron and Little Egrets on the river.
The access route recommended is via Wansford, which is a few miles north. We found that, coming from the south, it is easier and shorter to use the A605, leaving the A1(M) at Junction 17. This does involve negotiating with care the narrow (one-way) bridge across the river at the entry to Fotheringhay, but it was plenty wide enough for our caravan.
Locally, Oundle is a very pleasant town to visit with free parking and a market on Thursdays. We also enjoyed a National Trust visit to Lyveden New Bield, a few miles west of Oundle. This is a restored Elizabethan garden and 'lodge'.
