Ease of arrival/welcome

lovely site, lovely owners

Stayed at Chatterwood for a week in early June. The site has serviced hard standing pitches with grass adjacent for you to sit out on. Horse paddocks all around and a gated exit from the owners' garden which they use regularly to nip out and welcome new visitors and to pop round checking all is ok. Not intrusive, just a lovely level of care and interest in their campers' well being. Road noise from the main road is just noticeable, but it is across one of the horse paddocks so is not too intrusive. Crossing the main road takes you onto a bridle path and then a short walk into Bicknoller with a nice pub (Bicknoller Inn) that does good food and keeps a good pint. There is also the village store, which opens 0900 to 1300 at present. The road from the store leads up a lane and onto the bridleway up onto the Quantock Hills. Loads of walks and cycle routes across the hills and we managed a different circular walk on each of our 6 days stay. The walks along the valley are also very pretty and it is possible to catch a bus from near the site entrance into Watchett and then walk back to the site on public footpaths and minor roads. The site is well served by public transport, with buses every half an hour both ways (Taunton-Minehead). The site owners Jane and Tim also own a pub called the Farmers Arms in nearby Combe Florey (transport required as not in walking distance). This place is a gem and you should visit if you can! loads of heated outdoor (covid safe) seating under thatched canopies outside this beautiful thatched pub. Excellent beer, cider and wine. The food is top notch and includes home made 12 inch pizzas from their own wood fired oven, expertly crafted by Tim. My wife had a crayfish and sea bass linguine that was deemed "excellent". Not your typical pub fare as you can even share a chateaubriand if you are feeling hungry! we drove our 6 metre long Ducato motorhome there and Jane had even saved us a space in their car park. 10/10 for customer service. Bigger units may struggle as the pub is on a little lane over a small bridge. Well worth the 10 minute drive if you can make it. Would we come back? A resounding YES. Would also be nice out of season as walking the Quantocks in winter would be a treat too!
