Tranquility

A wonderful, tranquil site with the most beautiful distant views and lots of easy walking from the site.

constructive feedback

I agree wjth all the previous reviews. The field is large but all the pitches are crammed together which is a real shame. The grass was long when we arrived so by the time we left after 2 weeks the grass was Very long. No real problem with that but it did confirm the lack of visibilty of the site owner - we didn't see anyone all week. We got the feeling the owner is not particularly interested in the site.  The waste drain for toilet contents has no tap so you have to go 100yds to rinse out your tank. As there is no tap at the waste point you cant rinse away any splashes around the drain. Not very hygenic.  The business size wheelie bin was absolutely full when we arrived and was not emptied during the 2 weeks we were there. By the time we left we couldnt get our rubbish in the bin so had to leave it (bagged) at the side of the bin. Again, not very pleasant and a bit smelly. Having said all that we had a fantastic holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The other people on the site were all very friendly. Incidently they made similar comments re no waste tap and the pitches being too close together. A real shame. Would we go back....probably not to that particular site, there are loads of other sites to go to in one of the most beautiful areas in the world.

Nice site but!

When we arrived at the site we were amazed at the tranquil surroundings but disappointed at the pitch spacing there just isn't enough distance between units, if you don't mind this then 'go for it' Also the access road is very narrow and as others have said, timing is important when negotiating this road, unfortunately not everyone will be aware how busy this road can be and when? we left the site at our usual time (10-00am) to go home - big mistake. However I have to say that it is a nice place but there are others with better access

Great site!

Just back from 6 nights at this CL.  Owners very discreet - had to go and find them to pay at the end but this was fine.  Site beautiful - very quiet, plenty big enough for five vans, swings for children.  Loads to do for all weathers within 20 minutes drive.  Walk to high dam is excellent although not well signposted. The roads are narrow in places, especially if you have a big outfit, but its OK if you take your time and try and avoid the obvious times at the beginning and the end of the day when most people are on the way to or the way home from that day's event / activity.  Previous reviewers have said it but it is worth saying again - DO NOT follow your sat nav.  We did on the way back from a day out during our stay, really out of curiosity to see where it sent us, and some of the roads it sends you down would be more or less impassible with a van on the back! The only thing that stops me giving the site five stars is that the hard standings are quite close together - if you had five vans with awnings on you would be really close to your neighbour.  Don't really understand why they are so close - the site is plenty big enough. Would I go back?? Definitely!

Its the lakes - you expect stunning views and you get them!

First off make sure you follow the site or club instructions to get to the site and not a sat nav. The roads around the lakes are challenging when you are towing a caravan, especially when other (either locals or visitors - not sure which) are in a hurry when you are hauling 3.5 tonnes down single tracks. That said, here you are on the edge of the Grizdale forest and as you expect its stunning. Getting onto the site itself can make you wonder if you are there yet, the road and the track in keeps going, but its worth it as the site is lovely and quiet (when some other caravaner's big dogs aren't around). The pitches are on a bit of a slope, so make sure your not grounding your drawbar trying to level the van; but hey this isn't a big club site, its a CL which is what we love and the site, location, views were great. A perfect spot to launch yourself into the lakes. No mobile phone signal....peace :)

Shhh don't tell everyone!!!!!

Lovely CL, big field, nice and quiet and a relatively simply drive up to Hawkshead to access the Lakes. Don't be put off by the drive in, it is off the main roads but wide enough with plenty of passing places when required. Isolated, quiet, no TV signal, limited phone signal and no 3G - just what you want for a relaxing break. Don't miss the walk up to High Dam, the views are fantastic. Only slight downside is that the hard standings are very close together and if all are being used your awning will be very very close to the van next door. Having said that we arrived after 2 days of torrential rain and it was fine parking on the grass. Will we go again - definite YES!!

Secluded & Peaceful

Possibly the most secluded CL we've stayed on so far. Set in peaceful countryside, no sign of human habitation from the site; the only neighbours being sheep, rabbits & cows, the only sounds being the animals & a distant babbling brook. We booked for 2 nights & stayed for 7. The owners are very friendly & helpful, the area is beautiful, & I think it's my favourite CL so far.
