Grand CL

Our first but not last visit to this lovely CL, the owner Ann is a lovely person and ever so helpful at all times. We didn't have Anns directions and went over pendle hill !! Anns directions can be seen on the website http://www.drakehousecaravansite.co.uk/ follow them and you wont go far wrong. It is a really peaceful site and the pitches a very spacious and only 5 are allowed here. Plenty areas for walking from the site and little villages a short drive away, clitheroe market and Waddington village are worth a visit, there is a pub a mile down the road which we didn't use. Gisburn forest is 20 minutes away where there are lots of walkways and plenty cycle tracks for the mountain bikers.

A Hidden Diamond

We live in Aberdeen so to go as far as the ribble valley on the reviews of this site alone was a risk. We now know why everyone loves this site as after 8 days we did not want to leave. Ann is one lovely person with a ready smile and a a wish to make your stay enjoyable. All of the comments here are absolutely spot on and we are so sad as we live so far away that its not possible to make this our local peaceful getaway. We will be back though Ann and thank you. A note of caution to those who are new to this site PLEASE FOLLOW FINAL APPROACH INSTRUCTIONS BY ANN ON HER WEBSITE THEY WILL GET YOU THERE EASILY. ALSO BOOK EARLY AS SO MANY WANT TO VISIT AND REVISIT AND ANN STICKS STRICTLY TO THE 5 RULE.

A new favourite CL

This is an amazing gem of a site. I needed somewhere to relax and unwind after an operation and this couldn't have been more perfect. The site is absolutely beautiful-gorgeous views all around, very peaceful and in a lovely area-there are many villages and also bigger towns close by to visit either by car or on foot if you like walking-there are paths leading out in the fells from the site.Or you can just stay by your van, relax and enjoy the scenery-it really is stunning. The pitches are all hardstanding and very well spaced out and there are great views from all of them. There is a toilet and shower block-always clean and tidy no matter what time of day-and an information area full of ideas of where to go and what to do (another good idea is a whiteboard for guests to write on listing good places to eat and suggestions for where to visit). The owner Ann is absolutely fantastic. She made me feel really welcome and showed me where to pitch and even helped me set up.She is so friendly and helpful and makes you feel that nothing is too much trouble.Follow her directions to the site and you can't go wrong-i was on my own in my van and had no trouble whatsoever. All in all this is now a new favourite and i (and my dogs who were also welcomed) will go back and visit time and time again. Two added bonuses for me are that it is adults only and that it is open all year as i,or us if my husband is with me,tend to get out more in the winter than in the summer and i think this site is just perfect.Thankyou so much Ann-look forward to seeing you again soon!

First outing in a caravan

We stayed at Drake House Farm for a few days upon getting our caravan delivered. The site is nice and quiet with all the necessary facilities, topped with a great owner Ann, she is a real character (bet you can't guess what her other job is) The location is good with nice views and handy for Clitheroe where you can do all of your shopping. Waddington is only a 25 minute walk away with some great pubs serving wonderful cask ales and good food. All in all a lovely site that we will be returning to time and again. Thanks Ann for running a lovely site and making us feel so welcome

First visit to Lancashire

Just returned from an eleven day stay at Drake House, after a very relaxing break surrounded by beautiful countryside. The site is run by Ann, who is very friendly, fun, welcoming and helpful. She even knew where to source a replacement for a failed bolt from our folding step within a couple of miles! The site itself is very good, with fully serviced pitches, hardstandings, and a simple but very clean toilet and shower block. The site also has views of Pendle Hill. There are excellent pubs all around, serving real ales and delicious locally sourced food. The Forest of Bowland is on the site's doorstep, and the Yorkshire Dales are within very easy reach. If the scenery palls and you fancy some candyfloss it is not far to Morecambe! All in all, we can thoroughly recommend this site to anyone seeking peace and quiet in a scenic location, but with excellent eating places nearby.

First time out this year

This was one of our first forays into the world of CL camping and we picked a good one. If you have a big unit the approach can be a bit hair-raising but we found it ok and Ann's directions are spot on. Don't use san-nav as it will take you over Pendle Hill, stick to her written instructions. The site is well kept and the shower and toilet are kept very clean. Ann was very helpful and friendly and gave us a warm welcome. Will definately be going back.

Drake House Farm - 5 star CL

Just returned from a 3 night stay in Lancashire. In fact the MH engine is still hot. We have returned to Sussex having spent 3 nights at this little oasis. This CL has easy access (so long as care is taken in West Bradford village), five hardstanding pitches in a small meadow, each with individual water taps and EHU. It was so peaceful and relaxing with views over the Ribble valley toward Pendle Hill. The site has a basic but clean, shower and toilet area. This doubles up as an info centre too. A nice touch was a whiteboard where one could write messages to other caravanners pointing out recommendations for places to visit/eat. The owner was a joy to deal with and a very interesting person, with quite an unusual profession ;-) There are lots of walks from the site, access to Grindleton fell is basically straight up the lane and continue along the bridleway. The town of Clitheroe is a short walk along the river Ribble. Take the circular drive around Pendle...visit Downham (where they filmed "Whistle down the wind" - starring the young Haley Mills), then Barley, where you can eat in the Pendle Inn (dog friendly) or if you are feeling energetic walk up Pendle. Return via Newchurch and Sabden over the Nick o' Pendle. Stunning scenery. On a wet day (or even dry) a visit to Queens Street Mill is an unforgettable experience...I will try and add a link here for info:- http://www.aboutbritain.com/QueenStreetMillandTextileMuseum.htm I could not recomment a stay here highly enough.

Just Great

If your looking for a great spot in lovely surroundings you have just found one. Only down side is the approach through some of the surrounding villages which need care but that should not detract from the excellent site, the friendly owner and facilities. Tony and Trish

a little gem of getaway

This was only our 2nd adventure out in our new caravan. being new to towing we were a little concerned about access to the site as some reviews have suggested that the approach roads were a bit tricky to navigate, but I have to say that despite a lack of experience I had no problems and this was inspite of having to plan an alternate route courtesy of google maps due to west Bradford bridge being closed. Ann was warm and welcoming, even offering to help us reverse into our pitch. the site itself was lovely and peaceful, and the facilities were fine. we even woke up to pheasants wandering around the caravan in the morning. there is plenty of info on things to do locally, and because the weather was against us, we decided on a motoring tour of the forest of pendle. the views were stunning, and it was a lovely way to spend an otherwise slightly damp Saturday afternoon. we really wouldn't hesitate in staying again, can't wait to continue exploring the area. keep up the good work Ann.
