Ease of arrival/welcome

Slightly confused arrival

Just had 4 days at this lovely CL. 8.5m max outfit. 4 grass pitches, 3 hardstanding. Ehu, water and electric car charging point at each pitch. Views over North York Moors Railway. Electric paid separately in units of £5 - which was enough for our weekend. Refunds can be given if bank details left or else the owner donates to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We didn't leave details. The grassed area, though lovely, is not very wide so would need some clever pitching if all 4 pitches were to be used at any one time - especially with awnings. I booked over the internet and didn't get a confirmation email, but a quick email to Chris confirmed our booking had gone through. We weren't, however, given a pitch allocation and on arrival the pitch allocation board was empty anyway. It was obvious that pitches 1 and 2 were hardstanding - and we later saw that the hardstanding pitch just passed the entrance had been given pitch no 5A, however none of the grass pitches were marked. As we had stipulated that we were to be putting up an awning we made for the grassed pitch in the corner nearest the recycling. Not long after our arrival a caravan with a pitch allocation turned up, as well as a lady who was staying next door. She knew the owner and a little about the site. As Chris was out for lunch she helped as much as she could and suggested we chose our own pitches. So we stayed where we were. Each pitch should have had the £5 electricity added to the meter - but the pitch we were on was the only pitch to have electric at that time. When Chris arrived it transpired that the electric on our pitch had not been cleared from the previous occupant. The £5 was later added by payment card - which are all held by the owner. I have given the site a 4 star rating because of this confusion, but I am sure all these niggles will be ironed out once the CL has been running for longer. I have also given the peace and tranquility 4 stars, as unfortunately a neighbouring farm half a mile away was having a weekend of wedding celebrations that went on until 3am on the Fri and Sat mornings. Chris wasn't very happy when he heard and was most apologetic and promised to look into it further. Other than that the Thurs night was very peaceful and I am sure that ordinarily that is the case. The drive over motorhome waste was not best placed - thankfully we have a hose attachment - other than that some motorhomes may end up obstructing the entrance in order to empty. In the local area the Cinder Track cycle path from Whitby to Scarborough can be accessed about 3 miles down the road and the Falling Foss waterfall can be walked to from the campsite following the public footpath immediately across the main road and following signs to Littlebeck and thence to Falling Foss (8 mile max round trip). All in all we would recommend the site and once all the teething problems are ironed out we are sure it will do really well.
