Peaceful quiet site

We arrived knowing the owners were I holiday and wouldn't be available so that was fine. Our first ever caravan holiday and we loved the views and great location for the Peak District. Our pitch required levelling ramp and the drive was steep and very tricky but we managed and enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Nearly Perfect ...

Delightful site, owners, cats, eggs, views. However for a 9 night stay, and therefore down to our decision, maybe a trifle basic. We were completely new to the area. It would have been nice for some leaflets, local walks and places to visit info, to be available somewhere. And despite advertising availability of WiFi “on some pitches”, I couldn’t find it anywhere, paid or otherwise. Luckily, there are at least 4 pubs within a mile or so, and their WiFi was readily available! I worried about the steep climb out and the narrowness of the gate, but with a powerful car and taking it steadily we were fine. No problem. So not quite 5/5, but well worth an overall 4/5.

What a lovely site for a quiet rural retreat

Our first visit to this site but it won't be the last. This is a lovely peaceful site on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The pitches overlook some stunning countryside.Pitches have electric hook up and there is water, grey waste and chemical disposal within short walking distance from your hardstanding pitch.Wynford and Jane are lovely hosts and are on hand for local directions and any other advice. No need to bring eggs as they sell free range on site.Access is down a narrow lane which is approx half a mile long. However plenty of room to pass other vehicles on the rare chance you meet one.The site access is tight but we had no problems.Take it slow and wide and your in.There is a bit of an incline down to the pitches but again no real problems.I think we have found a new favourite weekend CL site and only an hour from home.I would recommend this site if you are looking for a quiet rural site.Even managed to catch site of a badger running around.

Ideal site for visiting Chatsworth Flower Show/House

Made very welcome by the owners. They ensured we found all the facilities needed for our stay. All pitches are hardstanding and no levelling blocks required on the one we selected. The views were outstanding, especially the sunsets. Access to all local towns and places of interest was easy. Chatsworth House/Estate was just 10 minutes away! We had no problems with the entry/exit to the site, just needed some care. Leaving the site was no problem, although the surface was slightly uneven. There may be a problem should the surface be very wet, but a slow and steady approach is the way to do it!

Bank Holiday at Fanshaw Gate House.

We have just spent a wonderful few days at this CL. I will admit that having read the previous review just before we arrived I was a bit apprehensive, but although the entrance to the site needs care especially on leaving, the drive isn't that steep or long. It is gravel/hardcore but not too badly maintained, I have seen alot worse. We didn't have any problems leaving, it just needs to be taken carefully. We received a warm welcome on arrival and given all the information required. The site is fairly compact but the pitches are wide hardstanding, and we did need blocks to get level. There is a supply provided in the old stable if needed. Site is very peaceful and dogs can be walked round the fields or along the lane. The views across the valley are wonderful. All the Peak District attractions are within easy reach and I can recommend a visit to NT Longshaw. We enjoyed our stay and would use the site again when in the area.

pity we were not told everything

We stayed on this site for 4 nights may bank holiday weekend.. a really nice little site with wonderful views. However two things really spoilt the weekend. one was the lack of preparation by the owners, you would have thought that prior to a bank holiday the owners would have ensured that the grass was mowed ready for the visitors.... NO we had to put up with a mower being used for 2 whole days.. yes the Saturday and Sunday was grass cutting days.. if i had wanted to listen to people cutting lawns for the whole weekend, i could have stopped at home... A little consideration for your guests would not be missed. The other point was the lack of total honesty in the write up for this site, nowhere does it mention a really steep, winding, very badly maintained drive to exit the site. we had to help push two caravans up this hill, and when we came to leave the wheels of our motor home were spinning and we have traction control and hill assist. talking to several guests on the site all agreed that had they known about the steepness and disrepair of the drive they would have thought twice about staying

Get away from it all

What a beautiful CL Site, we were blown away by the peace and the breathtakingly views, Sunset is gorgeous. Electric hook up, fresh water & waste points and 5 lovely hard standing pitches. Drive is very steep & gateway narrow but Wynford is there if you need help. Friendlier hosts you couldn't ask for they are so lovely. If they had a small toilet/shower this would easily be my favourite site ever. We will definitely be back.

Stunning site

Views from this site are perfect. Very friendly owners. Facilities basic but adequate. Access is up a narrow lane then down the steep hardcore drive. Pitches are spacious. Our only problem was on leaving the site our car struggled to climb with the caravan up the drive as it just couldn't grip well. Might be worth bearing in mind

Great little site for our first Caravan Trip

This was our first caravan trip, so wanted a quiet site to work everything out. A lovely little site overlooking countryside and very peaceful. Nothing was too much trouble for Wynford who was very friendly and informative which for us as 'newbee's' made our stay all the better. The fields at the back and side of the site were ideal for walking the dog. Will definitely go back. Thank you Wynford for making our first trip out a very pleasant experience :)
