Amazing views, peaceful site

We stayed on this site a few weeks ago, I intended to write a review then but forgot. I have remembered now as I'm about to book another stay. The access is a little tight with a caravan but with some careful driving on the last bit of the drive it's not a problem, the turn into the site requires some thought but again doable without problems. The view from the site is amazing and the field has plenty of room, It has a slope towards the edge where we pitched, OK with a caravan but the motorhomes parked further up where it's flatter. The EHU is easy and 16 amp ,the water tap is slow because the site is high up but if you time it right you can set a barrel filling and then empty the grey water and be back before the barrel is full. The waste bin is across the drive and the CDP is basic as most are away from the club sites. The site is very peaceful and has plenty of walks nearby, in fact many walkers can be seen walking past the gate along the footpaths towards the next great view at the end of the lane. When we were there it was windy and next trip we will take a wind break to give some shelter.

Not as expected

The access is a nightmare, the road might be firm, but it narrows and narrows even more the closer you get. Just before you reach the sharp turn into the gate, there are dense laurel hedges that must have brushed the sides of our caravan. The signage is pretty poor too. We stopped to ask a chap living nearby directions to check we were nearly there, and he explained better than the CAMC book where to go. Discovered there had been a change in circumstances of the owner(s), which helped us later to figure out whose bank account to pay into - important since there is no physical contact with site owner, and no signage. Couldn't figure out at first why we couldn't set the alarm on the caravan when we were going out...its the massive mast next to the field blocking the signal. Yes there's a view, when the weather permits, but the field itself isn't just sloping, it's very very uneven and lumpy. As previously stated in another review, the waste disposal is unpleasant, and we had to put rubbish into a big commercial bin because there was nothing on the actual field. Arrival from 10am means you are likely to meet another outfit as you try to leave, and guess what, we did!

Amazing view

We have just spent 3 nights on this site, the view is amazing because it's so high up the whole valley is visible, there are birds flying over the cliff edge and horses in the next field. That said the site is basic, there is one drinking water tap and that runs very slowly, I timed it and 7 minutes to fill a 40 ltr barrel but as there are a maximum of 5 units at any one time it's not a problem. The field is sloping towards the edge in the middle but levels out to the side, that's not a problem for us in a caravan but a motorhome would have to find a level bit. The site is very peaceful and well away from buildings apart from a tv/phone mast, so very quiet, the downside is a long drive from the road, it is tarmac so not difficult. We came here for the walks and were not disappointed we will definitely be back

Stunning views & sunsets

Spent 2 nights here Park anywhere you like. Electric hook up water & chemical waste The views from the site were beautiful & amazing sunsets. Very tight roads on approaching site but passing places Lots of walks from site Only one other Motorhome whilst we were there so plenty of room to choose from. Horses in the adjacent field Yes the water fill up was slow. Didn’t meet anyone from site whilst we were there Down point were the chemical waste point was the worse I have had to encounter 😥 a green wheelie bin lid over the hole it was gross!! & the tap was not close enough to wash out your cassette.

A Great CL

A group of us seach out and book a cl once a year. This year we chose this one and all of us agreed the best so far in 8 years. We were there during the very hot weather and the trees are hugh and offered us all shade. The views are great and a gentle breeze wass welcome. A little "bumpy" but nothing to worry about. Elson point by the gate and water tap under the trees. Yes the water pressure is low but as someone else said "you're on holiday!!!!" Sue is very helpful. A great and very quiet site. Very recommended.

Peaceful site, great for walking

We’ve just had a four night stop at this lovely site. It was very peaceful and quiet. The weather has been very hot (in the 30s) but we managed to find a shady spot under some huge beech trees and we kept relatively cool. The site is fairly basic - a rectangular grass field with trees on 2 sides and amazing views over Hampshire and Berkshire. There is plenty of room, but the EHU connections are in the centre, so it does help if you have quite a long electric cable, and then you can choose where you want to be. There were two water points and a CDP. The grass was nicely mown. At most there were 4 units when we stayed, and we were all able to spread out well apart, There is plenty of walking. Watership Down is about a mile, and the route is not too hilly. Kingsclere (with 3 pubs, PO and shop) is a similar distance, although a bit hilly. There is another pub at Hannington, but we didn’t get chance to go there. There is a tv mast very close to the field, but it didn’t bother us at all. It was very useful as a landmark when trying to find our way back to the site! We had good tv reception and mobile (sky mobile). The site is also good for dogs, but there’s not really anything to keep children entertained, so it’s probably best for adults. We’ll definitely be back!

Peaceful, beautiful views

Had a great stay here. Fantastic views from the hilltop location and we enjoyed watching the red kites, buzzards and pheasants directly from our windows. Plenty of walking options from the site. Loads of space on the site, plenty of good pitch options. We were the 5th van to arrive but still loads of room and didn't feel on top of anyone else. A second hookup cable is useful to be able to get to some of the further corners of the field. Despite its hilltop location managed to find a sheltered spot and had a quiet night despite 40mph south-westerly winds. TV and mobile signal (three) excellent. As per other reviewers be prepared for the water taking a long time to fill. Our 75l tank took at least 20 minutes to fill. Expect it to take ages and go for a walk! Approach road is narrow, although totally feasible in our 6.4m long X 2.5m wide van. One particularly narrow section with hedges on both sides was well maintained and carefully trimmed to avoid overhanging the road.

Couldn't ask for anything better!

We recently stayed for two nights on this site and couldn't have been happier. The views are incredible and it is peacefully tucked away. There are miles and miles of beautiful walks right from your doorstep so you can head straight out to explore. The local pub is friendly and welcoming, and the direct route is a short and easy walk for those who prefer to spend more time in the pub than getting there (or if you need an easy stumble back at the end of the afternoon...). The facilities are basic but all you need, and everything was kept very clean and tidy. It's dog friendly and our spaniel enjoyed his holiday as much as we did (though be aware that there are sheep in the adjacent field, so act responsibly if taking your dog). We enjoyed it so much we are now booking a weekend every month for the next six!

One of our top ten CL sites

Terrific place. Views to die for. Can’t understand the comments on the water pressure - you’re on holiday so why do a few more minutes matter? One interesting point - we parked tight under the telecommunications mast, and our (albeit 14 years old) motor mover wouldn’t work. Perfectly OK when we arrived home however. So presumably the radio emissions shut the mover down. Next time we’ll try to be farther from the mast

31st July - 2nd August - Great for peace and quiet, stunning views and wildlife

We've just stayed 2 nights at Freemantle Park Farm CL, great site, it's a big sheltered field with stunning views and lot's of space so quite easy to spread out, especially if you have an extra length of power cable. If you like peace, tranquility and wildlife, you won't be disappointed. As one or two have mentioned, the water pressure is quite low because it's on top of a hill but the view makes up for it! Thanks Sue, we'll be back.
