Another enjoyable stay at Freemantle Park Farm (Aug 2017)

This was perhaps our third visit to the site (twice that year). Its a lovely unspoilt CL field perched right on the top of the Downs with fantastic views out over the surrounding area. This CL has the advantage of electric hookup (useful in the early/later season months). There is a network of walks and footpaths from the site and for those fit enough you could even walk down the hill into the lovely village of Kingsclere (but it would be quite a climb back up). Its possible to walk to the pub at Hannington via a reasonably flat route. Local places of interest such as the town of Newbury and Hungerford are easy drives (allowing not just shopping but lovely walks along the river/navigations). As it may have been mentioned, water pressure from the water tap sited just off the field is quite low (probably due to the height pf the hill) so just be prepared to wait for your water barrel to fill up). Access to the site is reasonable with the final drive/road in having a high hedge each side (but by then you are off the main road and this portion is only about 100 yds or so). If you have any difficulty with the directions then look out for the very tall TV/radio mast at Hannington/the side of the Downs slope as thats where the CL field is. The field itself is reasonably flat but does undulate in places so its just a question of picking a spot (but all that is made up for by the views). We have met the owners a few times when they were out and about and they are chatty and friendly. All in all a wonderful peaceful site with fantastic views. Our first trip for 2018 is already booked.

Wonderful site but instructions to find could be better.

Wonderful views and a very large site. Cannot understand 'huddling round elec points' comments. One normal cable could reach every side of the field from the points. Both vans on the site while we were there did not need leveling blocks. Just choose your pitch with care. A look at the map shows the mast which can be seen for miles! If you don't like a quiet mast........One fault was that there was no separate tap to swill out the loo. Surely the CC require that? Instructions should mention the signposts. 'turn left after 2 miles' How do you know you have done two miles when towing a van along narrow roads? Instructions for Walkeridge Farm en route to Freemantle Park are far better. Grass kept short and bins emptied regularly. Would visit again for views, peace and quiet.

Great location but make sure your booking gets confirmed

This is a lovely location with fantastic views. We will definitely return. However, next time we will insist on being sent acknowledgement of our booking. Having booked in April, we were surprised to be told a couple of weeks before our arrival that we hadn't confirmed it and they were now full. I had both email and telephone records proving that I had indeed confirmed the booking. Only the offer of some hardstanding elsewhere saved our holiday. If you book here, I suggest you request that the owner sends you confirmation of your booking by email or post so you don't end up in the same situation.

Need levelling blocks and nice views

This is a site that requires levelling blocks. While the field is large, based on the uneven ground and the close proximity of the electric points, most of the space is not usable. Therefore we felt very on top of the other people there, as we all had to huddle around the electric hook up posts. The views over the countryside were wonderful (if you don't turn your head and look at the 150m high TV mast; although did mean great phone signal!). The fresh water tap was barely a dribble owing to the height of the site, so it was a case of turning on, returning 5-10mins later and hope it was full. The non-drinking waste tap didn't work and there were rats in the undergrowth by the taps and waste. However we were able to stay late on the day of departure which was nice and appreciated. Overall, and okay site, but not one we'd plan on returning too in a hurry.

Not for Motorhomes!

Arrived today and only got 10 feet inside the gate to the site before we found ourselves completely stuck!  Two other caravanners were able to get on site without problem but this site is not suitable for larger Motorhomes at this time of year. Waited two hours for a very kindly farmer to tow us out of the mire - thanks Gary. I'm sure this site would be lovely in the summer. Needless to say we did not stay so can't comment further on the site.  Thanks also to Jill who tried her best to get us out, to no avail but was very cheery and kept us company.

Secluded CL with terrific View

Spent three nights in March at this very secluded CL. Accessed from the Newbury Road it was easily and well signposted. We were the only unit on site for the three nights. The only factor that spoils the views is the large TV mast adjacent, other than that the views were stunning and we will return in the better weather to make the most of them. The owner was very helpful and not pressurising for payment, happy to have it posted through the door on departure. Again, beautiful secluded site.

A great little CL !!

We stayed here for 3 lovely nights. The views are glorious and it's lovely and quiet and tucked well away from civilization. The only issue, although it's not really an issue, is the slow running tap which takes forever. Just adopt the attitude that you're on holiday, take in those views and it's not a problem.......

Glorious Views

Spent the week end at this lovely peaceful site up on the Hampshire Downs.  No road noise.  Glorious views.  Great for walking, most of the footpaths are well marked.  Will definitely visit again.
