Super Site

We stayed here in August for ten days, and what a lovely site. It is very simple, no frills. It is a fairly level meadow that has the pitches mowed in the grass so in between the grass is left natural and it is delightful. There are a few apple trees on the one perimeter. All in all a wildlife haven, we saw owls, rabbits, buzzards. The furthest end of the campsite has super open views over arable land, or you can choose the end nearer the gate and country lane which is more sheltered. You can hear the road at times but it is a country lane leading for a Nature Reserve at Tophill Low (3 miles down lane - 20 min cycle ride - lovely place to visit especially if you are a bird fan and a bargain) and farms/stables so not excessive. Also, you can hear the trains as near to railway line but not intrusive. The main Beverley/Driffield road is about 10/15 minute walk up the country lane through Watton with footpaths for most of it, from here regular buses go to Beverley/Hull in one direction and Driffield/Bridlington the other way. Or alternatively you can go Hutton Cranswick (either main road as footpath or footpath across livestock fields from back of Watton Abbey) which is about 2.5-3 miles away and get the regular train service from this village. Also in this village is superb butchers - Whites, a Spar shop, good pub White Horse with spot on food, excellent farm shop with cafe as well as another cafe in the garden centre. Mr.Fillingham made us feel very welcome, and was charming and very easy going. The only thing to note is that you need cross the country lane and walk a small distance along it to to use CDP located next to the farm house, but we did not find it a problem - in fact you can walk further on some Club sites to get to the CDP.
