Disappointing

We booked this site for one night only when we were planning our Yorkshire road trip. We’re just glad it was only the one night. Could not get near enough to the water tap to fill up our Motorhome, despite having a reasonably long hose. The owner had fenced the tap off, because he had previously towed out two Motorhomes that had got stuck in the mud earlier in the year, but no alternative solution was offered, so we had to fill by hand using a two gallon water container. The grass needed mowing. Somebody had allowed their dog to foul the only available pitch for us, so we had to clear that up, we’re not dog owners ourselves. The shop mentioned in previous reviews, was in fact, just a small shed, with some items for sale. Didn’t see any meat in the fridge to purchase. When enquired about wool to purchase, was informed, Oh, it’s still on the sheep. When we went to pay, couldn’t get anyone to answer the door, so had to leave the money with a lodger in another part of the property. A delivery driver was having a problem delivering a parcel as well. The owner’s description of their site on the CAMC website sounded idyllic, but in reality fell far short. It really needs a lot of tlc to bring it up to standard and an accessible water tap for Motorhomes. Such a shame, as we thought it was going to be a great find, but wasn’t.

I find your review on Greenfields Farm totally unacceptable and misleading. The comments you  have made do not reflect this lovely site and the people who run it. The meat (when available) is beautiful but they are a small business and it is only available at certain times and believe it or not the sheep have just been sheared so the wool is now available. Again certain time of the year.

The comment you made about the person who came to the door is nothing short of rude. Why would you think he was a lodger!!   I have been to many CL sites where the owners are not available due to work etc. so not sure why this was a cause for complaint.

The ‘Little Bakers Shed’ is just that hence the name but they have been subject to a number of thefts so it’s not as accessible as it recently was but the produce is popular, fresh and lovely.

Making comments like yours can damage someone’s business so just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean it’s a bad site coz we love it there and Martin and Fiona are very busy but lovely people.

I too find your review unhelpful; we have stayed here a number of times, and canot fault the site or the proprietors - ours was one of the motorhomes that needed towing out of the soft ground by the water tap, done quickly and cheerfully! The area was then roped off to prevent others suffering - you should have learned by now to carry an expandable hose (fits in a small bag, stretches to 75') along with tap fittings to allow you to fill your tank at any site! You can't blame the owners for badly behaved dog owners - mention it to them by all means, but, come on!! Payment? - use bank transfer - Martin is happy to text you his bank details. It's quiet, open countryside, inexpensive, we've never known the grass to need cutting, get over yourself!
