Disappointing

Having read the reviews we thought we would give them the benefit of doubt in the hope things had improved. Sadly they had not. Grass very long, in fact the path to toilet was 6 inches long and feet got soaked. They could have at least mowed this area. Hedge overgrown at toilet waste point so impossible to keep lid up. Very disappointed.

Not a good standard

We stayed when visiting the Eisteddfod at Llangollen, a disappointment as the site appears to be uncared for with very long grass, a tight entrance & a poor welcome. The attitude was take or leave it, so different to other CL owners who take pride in their site. The owners digs ran free over the site, nit good when you have children. A real shame as the views are great & access to places of interest very good. We cannot recommend this CL.

Another Great Stay

We have just spent five days at this CL and I am at a complete loss to understand the comments in the bad reviews this summer . Yes the grass is not like a lawn but you cannot expect it you be so it is a field like a lot of cls .Yes the toilet is a Portaloo but very clean and do not forget this is not a Club Site where you pay over twice the price . The access is perfectly good if you take care I can manage perfectly well with twin axle and Land Rover which are about 13 metres long in total. If anybody is thinking of visiting this site you will not regret it . There are no frills but the views are fantastic and the owners give you a very warm welcome are very helpful and there are lots of things to do in the area . Furthermore Chirk is a great little village try the fish and chip shop opposite the CO-OP and the local butcher is fantastic with home made pies meats etc his wife boasts the best eccles cakes in the country.

disapointing

stayed recently here, grass was 6-8 inches high and when compared to other cl's that keep a mowed meadow needs some tlc, the worst was yet to come when the site owners (who are very friendly) let there dogs use cl as a toilet, dog lover or not its not good enough. we wont be back.

Less negative review

I can see where other reviewers are coming from but in my opinion it's not as bad as made out. Yes the entrance is not wide but it's adequate and moving off the entrance track to the site needs no more than usual caution when towing a metal box. Yes the grass was not to lawn quality, but it's a CL, not a CC site. The grass was cut whilst we were there, but as the last remaining unit after the weekend, there'd be an area with longer grass when we left. Yes the owner's dogs were about, but they're friendly and as dog people ourselves not a problem. We didn't find any dog poops about. Yes the loo is a Portaloo which we used to eek out the caravan's toilet. Water tap and toilet emptying were both fine with a rinse point by the chute. With 5 vans on over the weekend, it's not an unpopular site and the beauty of CLs is the variation that you find.

Didn't stop

We booked this site for three nights on the way home to the Midlands from Anglesey to break the journey and do a bit of sightseeing in the area. Booked it after finding the site on the mobile app as we were away at the time, so no access to reviews.  We were so disappointed that we ended up doing another two hours home, thus cutting our holiday short. The field was extremely wet with pools of water. To be fair there had been some torrential rain the day before but the site obviously did not drain very well, and the grass was quite long.  The entrance was tight over a raised cattle grid (when we exited the site the back of our van hit it), the drive was narrow right up against a fence and there was quite a drop to get onto the field.  Two very friendly dogs greeted me as soon as we drove in the gate, and a further friendly dog when I went to find the landowner (a very nice lady). One of the dogs left a package on the CL while we were there - completely unacceptable!  The WC was a portaloo - not a problem was we wouldn't have used it anyway as we have our own. But why advertise a WC? We managed to reverse practically back to the gate and we got on and off the field without stopping, but not at all ideal. I think if we had stayed and it had rained again we would probably have been stuck although the landowner did say tht her husband would pull us off. Sorry to be so negative, but advertised as a member owned site so expect them to be aware of what is needed.

Not as good as hoped

Visited Sept 2015. I always like to check reviews when I'm planning a trip, to know what to expect when we arrive tired after a long journey. Arriving at Halton farm though, things were not at all as I expected. Firstly the positive things here. It's a really good position for visiting the wealth of tourist places in the area- Chirk castle, Erdigg house, the famous aqueduct, etc. etc. The outlook is lovely, of nearby fields and woods, and there is plenty of room to pitch where you like. But- the entrance is VERY tight, even for our little 2 berth, and the field is longish pasture, with soft ground, not as cut as other reviews led me to expect- maybe the time of year affects this. The main gripe for me though, something that I find unacceptable, was that there were piles of large dog poo everywhere, from the 3 farm dogs that roam around. We found 4 piles just around our van after pitching. Other negative points I’m afraid are that there is noticeable road noise from 5am onwards from the nearby A5, there is no shower or games room as stated in this years handbook, and the grim portaloo I would personally use in 'emergency only'!! It is a dog friendly place though, with lots of space, but we will not be returning.

Beautiful scenery.

This site could be so much more although it is easy going with everything to hand. It has lovely views of the local countryside and easy access to main routes to Chirk, Llangollen and Wrexham. It would have been so nice just to have had the grass cut and not to have to clear up after (what we suspect were the owner's dogs, as they were allowed to run free) when we first got there and a few days later right next to our caravan and awning.

Make it a basic Cl with EHU

Good access to a working farm field. Don't expect mown lawn, its a field topped by the hay cutter. Three well spaces double EHU points and easy access water. The chemical disposal is some distance for us oldies and not the easiest to use. Forget the WC, this is an own facility site. Within 5 mins walk is a newsagent/shop, local bus service and a McDonalds. Prices as shown at £12 per night. If available we would use in preference to Lady Margaret. Would suggest to owners to remove reference to WC and pitch price nearer £10,for the basic facilities.
