Peaceful, quiet, clean..................

This was our first time on a CL and if this was represenative, we will definately do it again - both elsewhere and a return here. The owner was friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Access was good and the site both tranquil and charming in a rural way. Lots of farm animals in adjacent fields including turkeys and a peacock! The facilities, whilst basic, were very clean and well looked after. Fordingbridge is fairly near with plenty of pubs & restaurants including a good Indian. Plenty of walks in the vicinity and access to the New Forest itself an easy drive. Will definately go again!

Hawkhill Mill Farm

Beautiful site in a very good location for all amenities of the New Forest but so peaceful and tranquil. Geese and Turkeys on the farm but not a problem, just lovely to see them. Would definitely stay here again.

Peace and tranquility

Just returned from a late season visit to hawk hill mill, and would definitely return. The facilities are clean and well cared for, the owner very helpful and approachable. So far from the road that there is positively no road noise at all! The access to the site is not brilliant, a bit bumpy and narrow, but worth it when you get there! The hard standings could be upgraded, levelled, and drained, but the site is very natural and good value for money.

Quite and peaceful site near to Fordingbridge in the New Forest

We visited this CL site for an extended weekend in early August. The site has a basic shower and toilet block which is kept clean and tidy by the owners. When we booked we were told that there had just been a cancellation and that we could therefore be accommodated. However, when we arrived we were told that there had been a mix up with bookings and that the 5 established pitches were full. However, despite this mix up, the farmer was able to accommodate our caravan and also supply EHU. The farm is well connected by footpaths and we were able to walk our dogs on a number of lovely walks. The area is very pretty with some lovely villages; the town of Fordingbridge is worth a visit, when we visited the town lots of people were swimming in the River Avon, unfortunately, we did not have swimming gear with us otherwise a wild swim would have been taken. We visited this CL during a particularly hot and humid period and, as a result there were lots of biting insects on the farm. A liberal coating of insect repellent and use of the caravan's fly screens did the trick. We would recommend this CL as an 'off the beaten track' getaway; we will visit again but only in a dry period, the local footpaths were very muddy, but given the summer we have had in 2012 this is not surprising. Farmer very friendly and accommodating.

Hawkhill Mill CL

We stayed here in August 2012. The CL is situated in lovely quiet country-side 4 miles west of Fordingbridge. There are some lovely walks straight from the CL into woods and fields. We saw deer on our walks and heard owls each night. Close to the New Forest for walking, but this seems a much quieter area. Also very dark skies, so after dark, if it is clear, leave your van, get out your sun-lounger, and lie back and enjoy the stars. Another reviewer mentioned the Roman Villa. Don't bother with this unless you are into that sort of thing. A couple of small part mosaics on view, pathways where the walls used to be and a small museum. The facilities on the CL are very clean but basic. The shower is good unless someone else uses a tap, in which case it gets very hot ... and then freezing cold :( . The owner seemed friendly. You also are given upon arrival a bottle of special chemicals for the Loo (Standard chemicals are not allowed). They did not seem to do much as our toilet started to smell rather by the end of our 5 night stay. There is also another field 100m away that is used for caravans and camping which seemed to have 5-10 units in while we stayed, but this did not detract from the site. While we stayed here, there were six units on the CL for two nights and when others had visitors for BBQ's e.t.c. at the same time it did start to feel a little too busy. For those who like to watch the TV, (we have an status omni aerial) BBC channels can be picked up fine but other channels tended to break up sometimes. To find the CL my advice is to head to Fordingbridge and then follow signs to Sandelheath. The directions given will then take you to the site. These roads do become increasingly narrow but there are passing places. If we head this way again we will consider returning.

Keep returning here!

When we come here we feel miles from home not the 30 miles we have travelled! The site is next to a mill stream with good walking/cycling access to Fordingbridge. There is a lovely pub in Damerham called The Compasses, which serves the most fantastic but good value meals. In Fordingbridge there is The George which also serves lovely meals and has a lovely river side location. The Fordingbridge Museum is worth a visit. The are nearby, remains of a Roman Villa that we have yet to visit. The site itself is a little hard to find the first time but is really secluded and quiet. There is a (caged) guard peacock and numerous other animals here. The facilities are clean. The pitches are on grass but the approach seems to have been hardened which makes it easy to manoeuvre. The owners are lovely and very helpful. We have been here three times in the last year and will be going back!!!!

By the old mill stream...

Stayed one night in March 2012 in our motorhome (7.4m). Made very welcome. LocalPlacesOfInterest: Just West of Fordingbridge nr Alderholt Mill, use satnav at your peril due to road limitations. Interesting access but no problems. Site: Semi HS available but access with care as 'damp & slippery' if straying from path. Limited manoeuvring space; very peaceful and quiet by mill, Facilities: WC, shower and waste; EHU all basic but clean and tidy. Would definitely revisit this one.
