Ease of arrival/welcome

Pleasant enough but not outstanding

I was expecting more having read all the previous reviews. We enjoyed a 2 night stay at Heatherbield. Everything was fine and we have no complaints whatsoever. I met Mrs Meeks and she was lovely and had a very warm welcome, nice touch with the welcome notice board. The Shower and toilet were immaculate, the pitch was level, access good. It was easy to find. Good location within walking distance of a decent pub and the new Cinema and fast food area was also handy. We are new members only 1 year and have mainly stayed on Club sites which have all been marvellous. However, we don't have much experience of CL sites having only stayed on a couple. I'm just surprised at the previous reviews which all appear to rave about this site being the best ever? Strange, I find it hard to understand how is it so good? I could not give it 5 stars for items 1 to 4 because it is definitely not the most peaceful site I've stayed on being in close proximity to houses and the road. The bus service was poor, we have a motorhome so I always pick sites within walking distance to a pub and with a bus service although we are keen cyclists so if all else fails we can cycle to amenities. As for beauty it was ok, pleasant, a paddock backing on to a field but nothing special, the Cambridgeshire countryside around Ely is nothing stunning I could name hundreds of places more beautiful but equally there was nothing wrong with it, it was ok. Ely is a pleasant place, with plenty of nice cafes, pubs, shops and a market on Saturdays. I just felt a little mislead by the previous reviews and wanted to make it clear for other users, thank you.

We are very sorry that our site did not meet your expectations, however as we have over 70 wonderful reviews then we will go with the majority of people who have enjoyed their stay! The countryside around Ely is extremely flat as it is in the Fens and this makes cycling and walking easier. As for the bus service we are very blessed as a village to still have this and we make it perfectly clear to motorhome users that it is not an hourly service. Motor homes are welcome in Ely and there are at least two car parks that you can park in and all Ely parking is free. As for the fact it was not peaceful, you were in the middle of a field several yards away from houses and roads so a bit unsure as to why you found it noisy, other reviews on our site say how peaceful it is. We trust we can welcome you back to our site and once again apologise if it did not meet your requirements. Many thanks Andy & Sylvia

We do however fully agree the scenery surrounding the site is not staggeringly beautiful and upon reading through other reviews completely understand how they could be misleading. It's important to remember these are all people who stayed on the site and it is their opinion. We thank you for your honesty and assure you that your review and comments are appreciated just as much as anybody elses. We hope your comments will be useful to future visitors and trust this does not deter you from visiting again or using other CL sites.

Thanks once again Andy & Sylvia

Curiously, when I reflect on my visit to this site I find it difficult to recall just why this was one of the nicest CLs I have stayed in. It was not just one thing that stood out - it was the package as a whole. The countryside is not beautiful in the way that The New Forest, the Lake District or Scotland can be, but it is different and the flatness has its own beauty because it is relatively unusual in the UK. The welcome is always a good start and immediately makes one feel at home and a valued visitor. To have two onsite WCs, one with a shower, is very unusual on a CL - and they were spotless. The site itself is a good size and kept in very good condition. I live a fair distance away and have now seen much of the surrounding area, but I keep trying to find a justification for returning because of all the CLs I've visited, this one really does stand out above the rest for some reason. ( Except Coombe Farm, Great Milton! laughing laughing )

Firstly I would like to say that this review is somewhat biased as the member says at the start that they do not have much experience of CL's. I can assure them that this is an outstanding site even though some folk seem to go overboard about the surroundings. We had 3 nights there about 2 weeks ago and are seasoned CL'ers. This is one of the few that are absolutely spotless in every way. We have stayed on some dogs of CL's and have left before pitching on at least 2 as the descriptions have been a figment of somebody's imagination. Heatherbield is a gem and good luck to the owners.
