Hidden gem might be a bit of an overworked expression, but Hermitage Farm House certainly deserves this description. A large grass CL in totally unspoilt countryside, seemily miles away from human habitation - so tranquil. My welcome was unusual, I overshot the farmhouse but the local postman directed me and assured me I'd get a warm welcome from Emma and a big soppy Great Dane called Luna. He was right. Emma spared no effort to make me welcome and provide local information and the best viewpoint on the field. There's a lovely little walk to Hermitage Castle and Chapel ruins with the added benefit of a refreshing dip in the burn near the Chapel. This is a fairly new CL, and still relatively quiet, but I can't see it staying like that as it gets better known. Will return, next time with my wife.
