Sheer Bliss

We have just spent seven nights here and as others have said it is a great site. No pitch markers, you just pitch where you want. The grass had been cut and remarkably was lush green given the dryness caused by the last heatwave. The field is a bit up and down but nothing you can't handle. The biggest thing in our opinion is the total quietness of the site plus dark skies. At the top of the lane there are far reaching views over to Abergavenny and the Brecon Beacons which gave some magnificent sunsets during our visit. Local footpaths lead to Coleford (about 25 mins) and Newland and the Ostrich Inn. This path however was in very bad repair with lots of boulders to negotiate. We gave up on that one because of knees and hips. The Ostrich In there is only part time opening (check the hours) The location of the site gives easy journeys to local places of interest. The main town is Monmouth in just a few miles. Lots of walking and water sports are available along the River Wye. Chepstow, with its castle is well worth a visit passing Tintern Abbey on the way. Thoroughly enjoyed the chats with Eileen and John although they are not intrusive. Fees at the time of our visit were £20 per night so a slight rise from what's in the book.
