Ease of arrival/welcome

Such a disappointment.

We love visiting CL's but this is not a CL we will visit again. (Stayed late Oct 2015).

We gave the other poor reviews the benefit of the doubt but unfortunately they prove to be true.

Hoe Farm is situated in a clearing in old woodland.  The long drive from the main road to the farm is very hard to negotiate due to the number of pot holes along it.   We arrived at the farm to be greeted by an elderly lady who spoke no English.  She handed us a piece of paper with our pitch number but no other information.  The pitch numbers were written on small tree trunk stumps.  Ours was difficult to find because it had been placed upside down in the mud.  Our pitch was small.  We wanted to put our porch awning up and the only way we could do this was to place the caravan nose first on the pitch. Not ideal and our view from the window was a railway line. When our neighbours arrived and erected their awning there was barely 5 foot between the awnings.  We are sure this was a fire hazard.

The toilets and showers are fairly new but they were dirty. Toilet roll was NOT provided and showers cost extra despite the £20 a night charge. A hand towels was left in each toilet cubicle but these were not something you wanted to touch. We had been on the site 6 nights before the toilets were cleaned and their open bins emptied. In the toilets and shower, mops and buckets were provided and a sign asking you to leave the floor clean, however, no cleaning fliud was left in the buckets.   Drinking water was not easy to find as it was behind a tree stump.  The elsan and grey water points were not clearly marked and its main sign was broken and left lying in a shed near the toilets. Information on the site was lacking.

Hoe Farm is a working farm but so are many other CL's. It was a very untidy, uncared for site which is desperate for some TLC.  Next to one pitch under some extremely tall conifers was a collapsed fence, with long 4 inch nails sticking out.  Very dangerous!

The site is very handy for the train with a station at the end of the drive. Unfortunately, this means the railway is approx 100 yard from the site and trains do start very early and run until late.

We endured our stay but would not visit this site again.  It is unfortunate but in this area there are so few sites to choose from so Hoe Farm doesn't have any competition. We hope the caravan club make an inspection to this site soon and help and encourage the owners to make the improvements needed.
