Beautiful site, wonderful hosts (homecooked food available!) and stunning landscape
We stayed here for 8 nights from late July and it was the ideal place to enjoy the Western Lakes and not too far from Coniston and Ambleside (as long as you don't mind some breath-taking driving routes!). We wanted to climb Scafell Pike and you can actually see the summit from the site (when the weather was clear!) so we had the best vantage point.
The site itself was easy to find and very accessible with clear instructions of which route in to take, just make sure you take heed of the signs that state 'Unsuitable for Caravans' and don't rely on your sat nav. It was a real bonus having a recently built toilet and shower room on the site - especially with our family of 5! The pitches are very clearly marked and there's a handy hut on site with local information.
Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, especially Caroline who impressed us with her wonderful selection of reasonably priced home-cooked food and pulled out all the stops for a family afternoon tea and cooked breakfast during our stay - the perfect treat! We also had a dog with us and whilst we didn't fully explore walks nearby, the site has a handy small field to allow well-behaved dogs to let off steam (ours isn't though, so we kept him on the lead!). All in all a great first experience caravaning in The Lakes and one we hope to repeat before too long.
