A nice working farm site

David has a nice clean site, very welcoming we visited in the summer of 2011, his site gives you the insight of how the farming community works, good access for all the hard standings. toilets clean. David and family are very helpful the 6 th pitch is only for late arrivals, where he has a chain put across it so not to confuse anyone. I stayed there on 2 occasions over the 12 month period and only 5 caravans were pitched . I will use the site again in the near future, we have been discovering other c.l. sites across north wales and north England Davids site is one of the best Ive come across there are other C.L site with 6 pitches but all are peaceful, in my eyes your pitch fees go straight to the farmer/landowner and help him/her to pay for materials such as fertiliser and food stuffs for cattle helping them keep in business we need more farmers/landowners to join the caravan club scheme, well done !!! Im not farmer myself but teach conservation and horticulture in a college in the north of England and Im loving the caravan scene.

Ok for a few nights

Landed Friday after lunch. Looks like a typical farm on entry, machinery on show barns, dogs barking, the usual. Access to the site is through farm yard & past owners house. Site slopes. There's three pitches on top of slope & three pitches on bottom! Yes that makes six!!! We & our friends arrived in their van & there was five vans on site then later on the Friday there was another appeared! I though CLS were for 5 vans only (confused) Gentleman owner was talkative, he sells produce if you ask him, beef & burgers & steak. Very good too! Toilets clean, water point ok spot. Loo waste disposal not the best! For me personally this site is ok if your passing through or are going off out everyday. The site if very noisy farm wise, cattle, machinery, dogs barking! It quite down late afternoon though to be fair. Lots to see & do in the Dales & all on the doorstep of the site too!

Lovely site slightly marred by high charges and six vans on site

We recently visited this c.l. after booking weeks in advance. The approach roads would be tricky for a large outfit and the entrance track is quite rough and needs care. The owners were welcoming, the situation is beautiful, the w.c.facilities very well maintained.T.V.reception is very poor as a couple in the next van discovered when arriving for ten nights, trying two differenrt aerials and finally resorting to charity shops for dvds.We were surprised at posted charges of £2 per day for visiting cars, £3 per night for awning or tent sleeping accom and £5 for weekenders to stay after 12-00 on Sunday IF SPACE AVAILABLE. With this in mind we were even more surprised when on returning to the site on saturday evening we discovered A SIXTH VAN PITCHED FOR THE NIGHT. We are dissapointed that a member owning a c.l.is prepared to ignore the 5van rule.Overall a beautiful location that appears to be marred by a greedy approach as there are few other sites in this area.

A true Yorkshire welcome in a lovely area

How sad to read Lucmol1's reveiw as our welcome and stay could not have been more different. We have just stayed . The owners were absolutely lovely and we were made very welcome, The farm is having building work at the moment and the owners were very apologetic about this. We would definitely recommend a visit .

Good access to Malham Cove

We had been due to stay at Hurries Farm after Xmas 2011 but we had to change our arrangements and this May 2012 trip was the first chance we had had to re-book. The route to the site is narrow irrespective of which direction you approach from but there are plenty of passing places available - you just need to look ahead for oncoming traffic. The site is accessed through the farm yard and is tiered but all pitches have hardstanding and electric points. Levelling blocks were required but that was only to get truly level and is probably unnecessary if you were to “shuffle” around the pitch a bit. The owners, David & Wendy, were perfect hosts, always available to chat to and seek advice from etc. The site is a working farm with cattle, sheep and three rheas on the adjacent field. Although there is no direct access from the site for off road walks, a short walk along the road into Airton [3/4 mile] gives access to the Pennine Way either north to Malham or south to Gargrave [alongside the infant River Aire] as well as lots of other footpaths of equal interest. The nearest shop appeared to be at Hellifield [as well as a super fish & chip shop!]. Airton itself has no pubs [in fact it is a “dry” village in accordance with its Quaker traditions!] but there is a tea room/shop on the northern outskirts. Malham & Kirkby Malham are well served with pubs, tea rooms & touristy shops though. The one slight negative comment about Hurries is the less than salubrious CDP which is some way from the pitches and the wash out point is in a barn close by. In conclusion, Hurries Farm ticks most of the boxes of our CL/CS requirements and we would thoroughly recommend it for a restful stay.

Not made to feel welcome

We visited this site on Spring bank holiday this year. We have never been made to feel so unwelcome on all of the CL's that we have stayed on. when rang to book the pitch we told the lady owner that we had a twin axel caravan she said, oh one of those that use a lot of electric. Then when we got there she told us not put our van on the first pitch as it spoilt the view from her kitchen window, more like she would not be able to watch every one that stayed on the site. our neighbour next to us was told off for filling two aqua rolls at one time. She upset all but one member on the site. Needless to say We will not be returning.
