A little piece of heaven

Set on a hill on a small farm, overlooking New Abbey (the village and abbey ruins), this is a very attractive site. We stayed here in October 2011 and were pleased to see that the site had hard-standings suitable for our fairly large motor-home as there had been quite a bit of rain. The owners were very friendly, they sold fresh eggs and had a collection of lovely old tractors in the adjacent buildings. There is a toilet and wash basin in one of the outbuildings but no other facilities. It was possible to walk down to the village and abbey ruins (with a souvenir shop and cafe) on a slightly muddy footpath, and along the the minor road to the Scottish National Museum of Costume. There is also a pleasant circular walk along the seashore and lanes. Dumfries is a short ride or bus trip away, with a handy supermarket.
