Disappointed

Of the many CL’s that we have visited, this is the worst. If we had not paid a 50% deposit, we would not have stayed. This view was shared by others staying at the same time as us. The write up and pictures on the club page are a misrepresentation. We were met by the owner on arrival, who informed us that the advertised 16 amp hookup was only 10 amp and we would need to be careful not to trip it. The photos show a rural environment with vans spread out in a large field, but they cleverly don’t show the scruffy view of the commercial operation along one edge, with a collection of static caravans, workshops and assorted vehicles and machinery. The CL vans are confined to one corner of the field and the information sheet that you are given on arrival asks that you don’t even walk on the rest of it except for a mown path. The field is in fact their own campsite, where we saw tents and other vans. There is only one toilet not two. This and the shower are not as stated “exclusive use”, but shared with the occupants of the static caravans, the other campsite and people using the commercial premises. The shower was dirty. There was building work on the non CL area, which destroyed any chance of peace and tranquility. We could have been warned of this when booking only a few days before.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for posting a review and we are very sorry to read that you did not enjoy the site. The CL Owner hasn’t received any other complaints so was very sorry that their site did not meet your expectations and would like to address the concerns raised. Having purchased the site in 2016 they are currently in the process of restoring and redeveloping the site for the benefit of members and this is something they advise to everyone on arrival. The site sadly had previously closed in 2014 and the current owners are doing their best to make it a great site again as it’s in such a fabulous location for people to enjoy. The final stage of the redevelopment will be to screen the CL site so that the vehicles and machinery area you mention will not be visible to visitors. Please note this area is not a commercial venture but purely a garage and workshop for the owners own hobby and enjoyment. The rest of the views from the site are of open meadow fields and the surrounding countryside. The CL Field is 4 acres and free for guests of the CL Site to enjoy. The toilets and showers have been used by the owners daughter and partner on occasion, other than that it is for the exclusive use of members staying on the CL Site. The website has been updated to advise that the facilities are shared to avoid any further confusion about this. The toilets and showers are regularly cleaned however if you are concerned about the cleanliness at any time during your visit please do speak to the CL owner at the time as they will always do their utmost to help. With regard to the other campsite you mention, the CL owners had some friends staying with a caravan on their private hook up  - this area will also be screened off from the CL once the redevelopment is complete. We apologise for the confusion about the hook ups and have updated the website to reflect that it is 10 Amps to avoid further confusion to guests. Thank you again for leaving a review and we hope this helps to address your concerns.

Relaxing holiday

Had a lovely 12 days at Meadow Bank Farm. We had no issues with electric despite warnings in earlier reviews, and building works around the house were not obtrusive. The site allowed for access to many activities and also provided a haven of peace for those days where you did not want to venture out. We will return in the future.

Ideally situated for the ferry and New Forest

Recently stayed here prior to travelling to the Isle of Wight. It is well positioned for access to Southampton and the ferries. The site is at the end of a lane just off the main road. We had a warm welcome from Tim, the owner who showed us to our pitch. The pitches are amply sized and are all hardstanding. As we were there for only a short while we didn't erect an awning but there was sufficient room if we had wanted to put the awning up. Water, toilet and shower facilities were very good. Some reviewers have complained about the power supply but we didn't find this a problem. Not sure how these people would survive on the continent where some sites only have a 6amp supply. You just have to learn to adjust the appliances you use to suit the available power. Also as mentioned by others, the site is still under development so the views in one direction aren't the best but the views in other directions are fine. The White Horse pub which is about 10 minutes walk away served excellent food and drinks. The only downside I could find was that the road to Southampton was quite busy and getting out of the site against the flow of traffic could be difficult at peak times.

1 night sleepover

Stayed here for a night sleepover before catching the ferry the next morning over to Isle of Wight. Was a fantastic site, Tim was very helpful and extremely welcoming. We had a hard standing pitch which was great and on the site was a toilet and shower which we didn’t use but looked absolutely fine. Great pub that does lovely food within a 5 minutes walking distance from the site. Would definitely stay here again it was also a very quiet site too.

Home from Home

We love staying at this beautiful CL site. Tim and Catherine are exceptional hosts and will go out of their way to help, they even lent us a glass bowl to make our trifle in after picking the blackberries from around the meadow. We have stayed here several times and each time there have been improvements to the site. It now has hardstandings and well as grass pitches. There is some building work going on at the moment but that wasn't a problem to us and there wasn't any noise. There is one toilet and shower which are very clean, a washing machine and dryer for a small charge and a washing up area. More than adequate for 5 units. This time, whilst cycling down Woodlands Road, we found Spot in the Woods, a cafe with stunning gardens - well worth a visit. It's an ideal site to cycle from and also to visit all the attractions of the New Forest. This site is busy all year, so it's worth booking well in advance. Thank you Tim and Catherine. Looking forward to our next visit.

Motorhomer

Very warmly welcomed, even though we turned up late. Showed to our pitch, which was a hardstanding, as we had a motorhome it was ideal. Large area to walk dogs, quiet site, which was full when we were there. Facilities of shower, wc, etc acceptable and clean. Would definitely come back as so central for all we needed. Also loved the electronic gates, lovely security. Morrisons just down the road and pub just a short stroll away from the site.

A late review

I've just read the 2 very different reviews from Oscar The Puppy and Aury and decided to add my review from our May 2018 stay. The site is advertised as 16amp but only has 10. This may not have been a problem to Oscar but to Aury and myself when the temperatures in the morning were in single figures it meant we couldn't have heating and the water heater and boil a kettle all at the same time. That was a problem for us. The site has some hard standings but they were too small. We didn't have room to erect an awning with caravans on each side of us. Parts of the site are like a building site so the views aren't as good as they could be. I know that the owners are developing the site and next year things may very different if the hard standings are expanded and the building is completed. Finally, I don't know how the site was CL of the year runner up in 2017 because it isn't good enough - yet. It may be in the future if its development continues and the "private site" is separated from the CL so that only 5 vans are on site. I hope the owners continue the development because with a bit more clarity thought and effort it could be very good and possibly worthy of CL of the year.

Perfect for our needs

We needed a one night stay prior to crossing to Isle Of Wight - and another one night stay on our return (Prior to heading for the New Forest Folk Festival). This site was absolutely perfect. It was clean, quiet, in easy reach of the pub, had somewhere for us to walk the dogs, the 10A supply wasn't an issue (it allowed us to boil the kettle and heat our water), the hard standing was fine. Tim & Catherine were great and interesting hosts. Entrance and exit is by keypad operated gates - not an issue at all and gives a great feeling of improved security. Really couldn't ask for more. If you are heading for the 'Red Funnel' Isle of Wight ferry, it really is an excellent place to stay the night before - really easy access to the ferry.

Novice caravaner

We stayed here for 6 nights to familiarise ourselves with our new caravan. Looked after extremely well by Tim and Catherine. Very friendly and spacious site with clean facilities. Nothing was too much trouble. Will be returning very soon. Anita and Cliff

Very relaxing stay

Tim and Catherine gave us a very warm welcome upon arrival and shown all the facilities. They went out of their way to be helpful without being intrusive. Site is great and can't fault it for the money. They have done a tremendous amount if work in the two years they have been there and there is still more to come. Would recommend and we will be returning. Lovely big field to walk the dogs if required and plenty of garden furniture for your use if required.
