The Ritz of CLs

For me CLs are all about location (amenities wise CLs are fairly standard), and location wise Mosergh farm is the ritz of CLs. It is set in the rolling hills north-east of Kendel far away from the madding crowds of Windermere and Conniston, you get all the splendour of the Lake District with the added bonus that you have it to yourself. The views from the campsite are spectacular. But best of all is that it is excellent walking country. I did three walks from the campsite: (1) Whiteside Pike, (2) Selside Churchand (3) Longsleddale. I recommend all three. P.S. I also enjoyed my many conversations with David, the site manager, about farming in the Lake District.

A welcome in the hillside

Firstly, thank you to David for his welcome and courtesy. This is a no frills campsite and you're left to your own devices which suited us just fine. You can walk from the site along country lanes or onto the fells. A bit off the beaten track but that has its advantages. The views (particularly from pitch 3) are superb but remember this is a working farm with occasional noisy animals! Not that this detracted from the enjoyment of our stay. We enjoyed the experience and we are sure you will too - if you're not expecting the Ritz and are prepared to travel a bit..

Just our style!

This CL is just lovely. We stayed for a few nights & the site was all we could want. It isn't large, infact it seems very 'compact' BUT this maybe because of the low dry stone walls that surround the site. It is accessed from the farm yard via a gate which is kept shut but not locked.Chicken roam !! Each hard standing pitch has it's own water & electric point. The pitch we had was almost level with only minimal adjustment needed. The views across the hills towards Kendal are splendid and change with the weather..lovely. There are several supermarkets in Kendal with Morrisons & Aldi being the easiest and nearest to the CL ,which at a guess are approx.2-3 miles away. David,is "on hand" around the farm yard and will help if needed & if he is available. He collects the fees & enjoys a 'chat' when he sees you. So, what wasn't great? Infact, very little. However, my partner [who is very experienced towing a van] did find putting the caravan onto the pitch more difficult than normal. There wasn't much room to manoeuvre the van easily into position with out encroaching on another pitch. We both agreed that this could prove a problem for a very large outfit especially if most of the pitches were occupied. The CL is situated 'off the beaten track' along a very narrow surfaced farm road with no passing places hence the advice of 'no arrivals' before twelve. It would be difficult to reverse an outfit should another be met half way along this road!! Although we were arriving earlier than twelve,I had contacted the owner to discuss this and it was agreed that there wouldn't be a problem...fortunately the road was clear !! This is a lovely well managed CL on a Cumbrian Farm, which has beautiful scenery around it ....what's not to enjoy? OO

peace and tranquility

Stayed for 2 nights on our way to Scotland and the weather was scorching! Beautiful scenery, large pitches, peace and quiet but within easy access to all that the Lakes have to offer. No on-site toilet or shower so did not give a 5 rating. Recommend.

P&Q with stunning views

Agree with all previous reviews, this site has some stunning views. It's a very short run on a farm lane off the main A6 near Kendal but the first part has great visibility and then it's only the traffic going to the farm (and you're unlikely to meet anything if they are expecting you). Individual water and electricity on all pitches which are well spaced. It's a working farm so you may get a visit from the chickens etc but the CL is nicely separated and accessed through a gate immediately as you enter the farm. If you have dogs you can walk along a fair distance of farm lanes with very little traffic and of course there are endless footpaths through the fields around this area. If you want pubs or shopping Kendal is literally 5 mins drive down the road - a little too far to walk (no pavements either). There are some good pubs and we particularly like the Station inn (head for Oxenholme station - it's just passed that) and it's dog friendly in back section or outside. The site is perfectly located for days visiting the lakes. Windermere is about 25 mins drive) and we like Keswick too even though that's about 45 mins but the drive through the lakes via Ambleside is really nice. As most people have said, David will help with anything you need. Overall a great little CL where you can just chill in the P&Q or head into the lakes.

Spring Time on the Farm

We have just come back after a Perfect week of peace, quiet and luckily good weather on this just wonderful site.No problems with approach or arrival, the lanes are country lanes off the A6 but no problem. David greeted us and gave us all the information we needed and was on Hand if we needed any help and was full of great information about the farm and area. The views are exceptional and there are great walks right by the site, we have an old dog who cannot go far and this was good for us as we were right in the middle of lovely scenery. The farm was busy with the new lambs and it was really nice to have them around in the fields about us. Fresh eggs are available from the free range chickens who visited (with baby chicks and cockerel in tow). We love being in the country side and away from the madding crowd. The van did need some levelling, the pitches were neat and grass kept short, water to each pitch is great and all other disposal points served their purpose well. All in all a fab holiday and will return on our travels.

Peaceful

This is a great site with splendid views across the countryside. The pitches were of reasonable size. Great dog walks in area and a very friendly welcome. The directions to the site were spot on . Would return and recommend to others .
