Excellent well run CL............

Very well organised and run CL sited alongside the canal at New Mills. Pitches are a little close together and would not easily support an awning unless you had pitch 5 at the end of the site. Toilets and showers are excellent. Ideal for exploring the area without using your own transport - buses and train station(s) easily within walking distance. Fantastic walks through the industrial heritage of the area within 5 minutes from site.

Heavenly , we stayed here for my birthday for 4days ,enjoyed our stay , nice real ale pubs in the town and in Disley, canal walks ,great site .

Great site , great walks , real ale pubs in the town , also malt disley at disley, brewery on site , no probs on arrival or on departure. We will stay again had fablulous time dog walking few beers , nice and quiet site and a gem . Walk into town is steep so if any health probs taxi is best , but all in all we had a great time , would stay again anytime .

Disappointed

We visited this site over may bh weekend. We have been before different care takers. As we arrived the gates were open and stayed that way. Person care taking that day (we presume) said he didn't know when they would be repaired. We noted from previous visits the toilet and showers were in great need of decorating and cleaning. Sinks and toilets clean. The tiles around one of the showers was thick in black mould. The walls showing lots of damp. We never used them in the end. Pitches very small nowhere to put an awning if you wanted too. Priced at £21 pn is very expensive. It's a lovely area with lots of nice canal walks. The little town is ok.

The last leg of our Scottish tour heading for Kent

We booked this site on the off chance while we were in Loch Lomand and as a stop off on the way home .Terry could not have been more helpful on arrival neither Terry or Sally were around so I left a message and Sally contacted me not long after I left the message we had wandered into the town for lunch . The area was spotless the toilets and showers were very clean and it was nice and warm ,the peaceful setting was just what we needed after our touring .we only stayed one night but I wish it could have been more .

Good in Parts

Pros: Convenient for trains and road links into Manchester and Peak District. Local shops within walking distance. Pitches on well kept gravel area with tidy planting and grassed picnic area. Good chemical waste disposal point Good covered outdoor dish washing sink Electrically operated vehicle entrance gate with coded key pad Cons: Pitches are close together Two toilet rooms (not locked though a key is issued) shared with many canal boat users (and passers by??) so heavily used. Walls of one toilet room covered in unsightly black mould (Warden did say work was planned to rectify this) No dedicated grey waste disposal drain. Grey waste to go into chemical waste point (high lift) No light in dish wash area so only useable before dark. Some daytime noise from adjacent industry and workshops. Electric vehicle gate malfunctioning during our stay so left permanently open. £21 per night fee On balance, would use site again when visiting local area.

Lovely small site with good views

We stayed here in January and this is fairly local to us (15 miles). We like the area and found the site was close to New Mills and canal and Millennium Way walks. On arrival we did not know the code (my fault did not write it down from the email) but soon sorted. Very friendly welcome, only one other member on site when we arrived so plenty of pitch choices. They are quite close together but having been on aires etc they had enough space for a weekend. As winter we had no intention of putting out an awning so can not say if one would fit or not? No problem with our dogs, we always pick up after them and not sure where the dog area is (will ask next time). Unfortunately not all people pick up after dogs and I walked in dog poo without realising, hence a lot of cleaning of carpet and boots after - not the site owners fault this is lazy people who do not follow decency, no different in any other town or site we have visited. We thought the site was well run, the history was interesting, the cleanliness of the facilities was spot on and being so close to the canal for a good walk, and seeing all the boats just added to the charm. Had some lovely long walks down the canal and saw some very interesting boats, especially Del Boys boat. Were going to go into town after for something to eat but we were cold so ended up cooking on board and relaxing, but had done research and knew there were pubs/take aways etc close by. Liked it so much, writing this review, we have decided to see if there are any vacancies this weekend :)

Very poor and NOT dog friendly

This is a CL which is basically a small patch of gravel on an industrial estate, this includes a micro brewery. There are electronic gates then you then have to drive through a car park which serves the canal boats. Although sign posted as a CL, the canal boat residents have full access to the CL walking through to use their toilet/shower facilities, those staying on the CL can use these which I think allows the ridiculous price of £21.00 per night. I didn't leave my van as I was simply too scared, there is no boundary and anyone from the marina can walk in. As for dog friendly, it is not. I was given a stern warning not to allow my dog to pee on the grass next to my van or the gravel, I had to walk out of the CL through the totally dark car park to a dustbin area, I was then given another warning of not picking up dog poo...…...there are dozens of dogs from the marina boats so I was very insulted before I had even hooked up. Noise......A big factory on the opposite side of the canal emits a hum like a generator all night. Views.... You might as well be in any town centre, just rows of houses with a distant view of Kinder Scout. This site is not worth the money and I dread to think what it would be like when full. Not acceptable to charge members this price.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review. The CL owner has been in touch as he works really hard to ensure everyone has a wonderful stay at their site and wants to clear up any confusion. Their site page does show that the shower facilities are shared. The Marina has electric gates, fencing and two caretakers who live on site. The CL owner is around regularly as well so the site has great security in place. There is a designated area for dogs to use and they ask that all guests use this area with their dogs to keep the site and pitches nice for other members. He is not sure what noise disturbed you during the night. The factory mentioned is a large old sweet factory which is about a 1/3 mile away and does not make any noise. It could have possibly been a boat that had their engine running to use their onboard facilities and we apologise this disturbed your stay.

Toilet and Shower

Just got back from two nights at New Mill, A Beautiful site, nice and level hard standing, great views over the canal up into the hills. Theres a mini brewery on site where you can buy some excellent beer, especially if your a real ale drinker. We were there on a Monday and Tuesday, unfortunately we could not find a local pub for a evening pub meal one pub served meals Thur. Fri. and Sat. and we were told the food there was great. (so we chose the wrong two days) but lovely CL, Trains and Buses walking distance, nice walks along the Canal path etc. The CL is nice and secure with an electric sliding gate and a lockable side gate, but this gate is unlocked until 5pm then you need your key to get in and out, but the fact that the side gate was left open all day we noticed walkers on the canal looking across and seeing the toilets just walk round and over the bridge and use the toilets, (put us off using them) the key to the side gate also fits the toilet and shower but for some reason there left open, would be a better idea to keep them locked for key holders only.
