The birds and the many other animals

When morning comes, the birds awake, a bit before you want to. Now one more negative remark, one of the two toilet/shower/sinks was not used while the toilet was broke. All other things where great, the environment, the welcome, the information and the facilities. If you want to visit something in the neighbourhood bus and train are nearby and the walks are quite beautiful!

What happened to spaces between pitches?

Used this site numerous times and have given it 5 stars in the past for the reasons others have mentioned. Unfortunately, by putting all the pitches along the canal side - people like the view - there is no adequate separation of pitches. A caravan with awning will fill most of the pitch which means the car is in front of the unit. If there is another caravan and awning next to it, the space between them is just over 1m; hardly the fire break I would expect. Sadly, I will not use this site again until they have restored adequate fire breaks. I have suggested this twice to no avail.

I tried to give this site one star - because of the perceived fire risk - but it was adjusted to four stars without my agreement!

Bank Holiday Bliss!

New Mills Marina is a great site. Close to plenty of interesting places to visit, there’s no need to use your car at all if you’re keen cyclists or walkers. Our arrival was swift, and we chose pitch 2 of the 5 pitches. 3 and 5 were already occupied. The EHU is close to each pitch and the water supply isn’t one of those annoying push down types that take an eternity to fill your aquaroll. There isn’t an awful lot of room between the pitches, and if you are seeking privacy then perhaps this isn’t right for you The only negative we found was the chemical disposal point. It is situated between pitches 2 and 3. It’s not only used by the CL but also the users of the marina. As it was incredibly warm over the bank holiday we had windows and roof vents open, which meant every time someone emptied their canister, we were treated to the smell. We visited a couple of local pubs, the micro pub The Beer Shed on the high street is fabulous for real ale lovers. There is also a brewery at the marina, open during the day for sales of bottles and mini kegs. The Indian restaurant, “Simply Indian” is also excellent, and they deliver to the marina. At £19.50 it’s a tad more expensive than the average CL however we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. There are very clean toilets, showers and a laundry, as well gas and other essentials available from the marina’s office. New Mills is an undiscovered gem in the High Peak but well worth a visit!

Winter at New Mills Marina

We booked this site for 3 nights and ended up staying five nights. Pete and Heather are a lovely couple and full of information about the local area and always had time for a chat. The site is extremely well kept and as we had just come from a very muddy site this site did us proud. All gravel parking area with plenty of room for five units. Very secure site with electric gates. Two toilets and showers which were always clean and tidy and, although some of the narrow boat residents used them as well, we never had to wait to use them. New Mills is an interesting little town with plenty shops and cafes, some of which are dog friendly. The Millenium Walkway is worth a visit especially if there has been a lot of rain and the river is high. Good walks along the canal which was surprisingly not very muddy, considering the weather we had. Train and bus services a few minutes walk from the site. We caught the bus to Buxton which is about half an hour away and again worth a visit. This is a site we will definitely be back to visit.

Lovely Weekend - thank you

Just spent a lovely weekend at the New Mills Marina. We had a very warm welcome from Heather who gave us lots of useful information on arrival. Just 5 pitches - so the site is peaceful - exactly what we wanted. The Marina is clean and well kept - and we enjoyed the view of the canal boats in the marina, and the comings and goings. Plenty of local shops and pubs. A little pricey - but pleasant for a January stay - and we will certainly return.

This was a peaceful and secure site with views of the hills and canal. The Wardens were so helpful and welcoming, Heather and Pete could not be more kind. The site was clean and well kept with hot showers and toilets. We shall be visiting again.

Festive stay December 2017

What a find. Stayed on site for 2 nights on our way to York for Xmas. Delightful Wardens, so helpful. Fantastic location next to the Canal, with the barges lit up for Xmas and the smell of coal fires. Clean facilities, everything you need for a comfortable stay. Very close to Manchester, Regular trains into Manchester, Station just up the road.

Lovely site

New to caravaning and therefore new to reversing/unhitching and setting up. The welcome from Pete & Heaher was great, Pete assisted me reversing and then he and Heather helped unhitch and set up the van, nothing was too much trouble. The site is spotless ( toilets and showers included) and idealic next to the canal where narrow boats are moored. Nearest pub is just a 5 minute walk out of the secure gates and down the hill. We only stayed the one night but we will Certainly be back again. Pete and Sue are a credit to this site.

Relaxed one night stay

Just returned from a one night stay. We were treated with a very friendly welcome on this lovely site. Having just picked up our new van this was our Maiden trip enroute home. Will definitely return.
