Lovely CL near Builth Wells

We’ve just spent 7 nights at this lovely CL just outside Builth Wells. Set on a working sheep farm you’re assured of peace and quiet – unless, like us you arrive on a day when the sheep are being brought in for shearing then you’ll really wonder what you’ve let yourself in for. But not to worry, because once that was out of the way, calm returned! Access is very easy off the B4520 – just take a little care through the one way system in the town itself and at the bend on to the Upper Chapel road. When you arrive you have a choice of two pitching areas. We chose the front field – the pitches are rather narrow and slightly sloping but certainly more than adequate for a van and the bonus is that the awning can go on grass. The views from this field are superb across the meadow to the hills on the opposite side off the valley. In the back field there are some newer, more manicured pitches which do get the evening sun for longer but miss out on the views. All the pitches have a water tap adjacent so you pays your money and you makes your choice. The toilet and shower facilities are excellent and there’s a disabled toilet too. For strollers there are any number of footpaths from the farm itself around the surrounding meadows. For more serious walkers the Wye Valley Walk passes through Builth Wells and it’s an easy drive to Rhayader and the Elan Valley or Llandrindod Wells for more strenuous days out. If you head up to Rhayader, a visit to the kite feeding centre at Gigrin Farm is a must. For a peaceful and relaxed (or even more active) stay in the area, it’d be hard to beat this place – it’s an excellent example of just why we choose to stay on CLs rather than bigger sites.
