Arrival on site is straightforward, whichever way you drive along the A590.Just lookout for the Cartmel sign as described in the Site Guide and the barn/house is on the left in 150 yards. The entrance is after the house (now converted to holiday complex). The gate is not very wide but you approach in a straight line so shouldn't cause you any problems. We were met by a young lady who pointed out where everything was. All the facilities are contained in a dry stone cladded enclosure found behind the first pitch. As other reviewers have mentioned, staying on this pitch may not be to everyones taste as other members will have to walk behind you to get to the facilities. A motorhome was parked there for 2 nights and parked on the edge of the pitch allowing a bit of room. The pitches are as per the photograph, in a straight line, more or less facing east. There is a small meadow field in front for basic dog exercise first and last thing. All of the pitches are on slate chipping, quite large with what appears hard core underneath. I wouldn't have thought it was the easiest to erect an awning. We didn't bring one as only a 5 night stop. There are some not fully grown trees on grass verges between pitches. We managed to find a level, side to side, pitch but the nose was a bit down. Motorhomes take note. The facilities include full recycling bins, an elsan that is more than adequate and fresh water. My only gripe would be that, whilst both water taps are clearly marked, some numpty is bound to clean his toilet cassette with the wrong one. The views of the low level hills opposite the CL are wonderful and it is quite easy to access Gummer How from site with the appropriate map. Normally easy access to Bowness via the east road along Windermere but at the time of writing pipe laying is continuing and the road is closed. We had no problem with WiFi signal or telephone. Don't know about TV as we don't have one. Now the downside. The CL is about 150 yards away from the A590, a busy road from Grange to Ulverstone and Barrow and there is a constant stream of traffic along it at all times of day and night. It does drop off at night but if you are a very light sleeper and road noise affects you then this probably isn't the place for you. I can't say it was peaceful but it wouldn't stop me going back. There is a Shell garage about 1 mile down towards Newby Bridge that acts as a Spar type shop and the Swan Inn Hotel is just a little further along. There are walks to be had from site with good maps and the rest of the Southern Lakes are within easy driving distance. All in all a decent CL stop, particularly for winter with its hardstanding. We didn't see the owner again but didn't need to. She did mention that we could stay a bit longer on our leaving day if required. Please note we were asked for a deposit when booking. If you have non camping friends or relatives then the holiday apartments will be very handy.
