A little Gem of a Site

We booked this site in the hope of getting some sleep as the seagulls had created havoc where we live and were "singing" us awake at 0330 most mornings. We were not disappointed... The approach roads were a bit narrow, but luckily we didn't meet anything coming the other direction, so this wasn't an issue for us. On arrival Diane met us with a smile and a well put together package of all the local information we would need. We met Charlie the next day, when he showed us how to open the middle of three gates to the site entrance without breaking our backs (I'm glad he did as it was obvious really, but we just didn't think due to previous sleep depravation!). We soon pitched up and were met with the longed for peace which we sought. Weston Super Mare is a short drive away and so is Bristol, along the A370. The site is quite central to everything we needed to visit was not too far. The Bristol Airport flight path is above the site but we soon got used to the little noise that there was and enjoyed "plane spotting" with our binoculars. The only other noises which could be heard were a rooster (once, but not in the early hours!), A few cattle mooing and sheep baaing in the nearby paddocks and horses whinnying too. Ahh, lovely tranquil site where we were able to recharge our batteries and listen to the sounds of nature. We put a bird table up which they were reluctant to use at first but by the end of the week we were regularly being visited by great tits, blue tits, sparrows, thrushes and wood pigeons. The wifi was very good, although it did slow down a bit during some particularly unpleasant weather, which was to be expected, but it soon picked up again. We found Diane and Charlie to be most pleasant and helpful during our stay and we would thoroughly recommend anyone to visit here.

Location,location,location

This was my first CL. Going solo as well. Borrowed a campervan. Wanted somewhere easy to get to, not too far from home and on a good bus route. Orchard Bank did not disappoint. I only stayed one night but will be back. Pitch was huge. Price very reasonable and included Wi Fi. Gate padlocked so felt safe. Yes the hard standings were a little rustic but for me that added to the charm. Site enclosed by hedging and was tidy. Grass cut. Very pleasant. It rained heavily that night but the pitch was bone dry. Nice and level as well. Loads of footpaths from the site. Frequent fast buses to Weston and to Bristol. Lots of garden centres and places of interest in the area. Close to AONB and beaches. Friendly welcome and a welcome pack. Di emailed directions with pics of the approach Beverly helpful. All in all a perfect introduction to CL touring. Well done. Be aware that you can hear planes overhead but obviously near Bristol airport can't be helped. Not too frequent and didn't notice at night. In fact I slept so well I overslept!

Lovely, friendly owners, relaxing, location fantastic!

I can see Orchard Banks owners have worked hard to achieve in my opinion, a lovely, straight forward certified location site. The 5 hard-standing pitches have grass next to them and there is easily enough room to pop up an awning and listen to the bird song whilst sipping on a glass of wine! Each of the spaced out pitches have their own electric supply with water near and waste point. Hedging is well landscaped and the site is easily found off a country lane. With it's location close to AONB and historic cities, an award winning garden centre and the sea-side only a few miles away, it's definitely worth a visit. I shall be returning!

not up to standard

My first thoughts on seeing this site was very disappointing. Very poorly laid handstandings consisting of very rough crushed stone and brick and full of weeds. Far to rough to put the awning up and lay the ground sheet as it would have torn it to shreds. The hardstandings were some 8 to 12 inches above the surrounding grass areas so impossible to put up the awning there. The hedges badly needed cutting and one of the worst CL's we've been on. A shame because with a bit more thought and effort it could be a nice site, and the owner was very nice and friendly. Would never go there again

Comment from the Caravan and Motorhome Club:

The CL owner has been in touch as she is sorry that you did not enjoy your time at the site as she works hard to ensure guests always have the best possible stay. As such she would like to address your concerns.

The grass is cut regularly and the hedges are cut once a year on advice from the local wildlife group. Each pitch is 10 metres by 10 metres. During your stay, the hardstanding had not long been laid and was still settling but this should not have caused you any issues with putting up the awning and they have not had any other visitors who have had a problem with this. As such the CL owners are very sorry to learn that this affected your enjoyment of your stay.

We hope this helps address your concerns and thank you for leaving a review.

Excellent CL Site

Excellent CL site! Large, well spaced hard standings with EHU. Good WiFi connection for small fee. Close to Bistol Airport, so some aircraft noise. Easy access to Weston-super-Mare, Cheddar Gorge etc. The owners are extremely welcoming and helpful.

Very peaceful site

Not yet in the book, but got directions from internet & was asked to phone when getting near, & directions were very kindly texted to us, & we were met at the end of lane to direct us to site. It is a very level peaceful, spacious site, with hard standings, EHU & wifi (£1 a day charge). Owners are very friendly & welcoming. Only 15 minutes from M5 & very accessible for both Clevedon & Weston Super Mare.
