This is possibly the most peaceful CL site you could wish for- just returned from 6 nights here. Ideally located within walking distance of Wray Castle (about 45min away) and the Western shores of Lake Windermere, with a superb pub in the village of Outgate only 5 min walk [and it does good food and beers]. The site itself is exceptionally spacious, with almost 4 acres for 5 vans. Good rubbish/recycling facilities, easy access chemical disposal in the far corner, out of the way, plus two good water taps. The mix of field and hardstanding, combined with mature (ancient!) trees gives privacy between the pitches. Although a lot of the site is lumpy, the main pitches are virtually flat. The nature of the landscape means that it is superbly quiet at night, with no light pollution- ideal for star gazing, and watching the owls swoop around. This is by far the best CL I have been on- and with minimal facilities, probably the way a CL should be. I look forward to returning soon- and, as its open all year round, a winter trip looks enticing. If you are self-sufficient, it makes a brilliant base to explore the southern Lake district.
