A First Class North Yorkshire CL

A short drive from junction 49 of the AL and you are at one of the best located CL's in North Yorkshire. Its actually situated at Jervaulx Abbey. After a very warm welcome you drive through the entrance into a large well tended walled field. There are 5 caravan pitched at any one time however with such a large field you certainly get peace and quiet and the feeling you are alone. The warden of this privately owned business can be found within the cafe/gift shop of the Abbey. There are all the usual water and disposal points plus a small communal toilet block. There are no showers. TV coverage is good but the power is very low. We estimate below 10amps as with nothing on it would trip with just the microwave. Not such a big problem given that the site is so good in other ways. A small gate in the walled perimeter for which you will be given a code. Through the gate and across the road and you have a well marked path along the river cover to the Cover pub. Good if ordinary food but GREAT BEER. Try the award winning Timothy Taylor. Lots to do in the area. Masham for the breweries. Middleham for the horse racing and castle and just a few miles drive and you are in Swaledale and some of the best walking in the country...not to mention Wallace and Grommit and the Hawes creamery !! We would certainly recommend this CL to anyone. A first class site, run by first class poeple is a first class area. Enjoy !!!

Wonderful

We were met on arrival by the owner who was so friendly and at ease.He gave us a choice as to where to pitch and the pitches were very spacious. Grass pitches. A lovely CL site. Our first visit to a CL and it was heaven. So peaceful. Next door to the tea rooms of Jervaulx Abbey and the abbey is just a walk across the road. The site is away from the road and traffic, and so it is very peaceful. There's a lovely quaint pub at the bottom of the road called Coverbridge Inn which cooks a lovely pub lunch if you are hungry. The ham and eggs are the best I've ever had. The portions are large so make sure you are hungry. A few minutes up the road is a lovely icecream parlour where you can sit in to enjoy, and see the cows on the farm. The best icecream too. yum! I would definitely recommend this site. There is a toilet block with 2 toilets if yours is ever in use and you need to go. Lots of country walks nearby. And if you like bird watching this is a wonderful place to stay. We stumbled upon a 40's weekend in Leyburn which was fantastic for a day out. The re-inactments entertained our teenage son, which is a bonus whilst caravanning. I will go back again. hopefully longer this time.
