Our first time won't be out last!

We had been looking forward to Patterdale for months and we weren't disappointed. The instructions in the CC book were excellent and needed to be as the Certificated LocalPlacesOfInterest sign on the junction where you turn is of a size you will miss! Having negotiated the drive to the site, it is wide gated and easy to access. It has a feeling of security about it. This is a pretty site complete with babbling brook (beck) The pitches are tight though and if I had a moan, this would be it. To get our awning up we had to pitch as far as possible to the side of the pitch to have any chance. We managed it but not all pitches were as "generous". You are among trees and shrubbery which is always a pleasure. The site is generally quiet with a little road noise but hardly perceptible. As for the area, well, what can one say - fabulous, wonderful etc etc. It has a rugged beauty that the Lakes are all about. This is walking country make no mistake and not to have walking kit is almost a crime in these parts! and the walks are as numerous as you want and as easy or as hard as you want with Hellvelyn pulling you towards it, but wherever you are you have the rugged and natural beauty of the fells. Penrith is the largest town and the usual mixture of supermarkets can be found there but the local shops in Glenridding have an excellent choice of goods. We didn't try the local pub but from previous reviews, perhaps we should have and definitely will next time. And there will be a next time. There are many NT attractions in the area with Aira Force Falls just 5 mins by car. Worth seeing and it must be spectacular when in flood! The area is of course dominated not only by wonderful fells but the waters of Ullswater which is a most impressive lake with fishing, boating sailing etc and if that doesn't float your boat, you can always take the steamer for a pleasure trip up the lake. There are plenty of places around the lake where one can find peace and tranquility Keswick is in easy reach by car, another wonderful town surrounded by magnificent crags and fells. All in all, an excellent CL and an excellent stay!
