Wild, peaceful, beautiful, but...

This site is a total contrast to the neat and tidy fields studded with electric hookups. We approached it along a narrow winding lane with few passing places. Luckily the large truck we met was at a passing place, but we had to reverse 50 m with the caravan to let a white van past. The instructions say *Turn into farm road, the site is immediately on the left". But on the left was a steep bank covered in bracken. So we carried on, past a large field full of sheep, to the farmhouse, to find out where to go. Mr Richards said, "Anywhere in this field, or anywhere in the field back there." So we returned to the sheep and found a reasonably level spot close to the road to set up. the tap was not too hard to find, but it took me a while to realise that the upside down refuse bin dug into the ground in the long grass was the sanitary disposal. The sheep took a liking to our solar panel, and I had to put it on our picnic table. The views were great and the only sound was sheep chomping. There is a lovely walk down to the Wye in about 15 minutes. We discovered tha the access route from Newbridge was much easier: follow signs off A470 to Brynwen, then keep turning left.

If only all CLs were like this.

With too many sites becoming £20 a night, manicured lawns with EHU this is a joy. Unfortunately they are becoming thin on the ground. Is the club pushing owners to "upgrade" to meet the dependency on electric gadgets? Enjoy the tranquility, space and views while you can, plus the occasional sheep. However, if you crave facilities you will be sadly disappointed. We loved it.

Stunning Views

We’re here on site struggling to get motivated to pack up and leave as it’s sadly our last day of this week long break. This is the third time we’ve visited this site and it certainly won’t be the last. The views really are to die for in any direction. And the peace! Absolutely no traffic noise, only birds and sheep and the lovely friendly family driving in & out. There are sheep on site but the field is so huge that they aren’t a problem. The rubbish is collected regularly but there is sadly no recycling. The water pressure is excellent from a tap on an oak tree. The CDP is adequate and certainly an improvement from previous visits! There isn’t a separate tap though 😟 All the utilities are under the trees at the bottom of the field. This part of Wales is so beautiful with plenty of walking and cycling routes. We visited the Elan Vally via the mountain road. We drove up to Lyn Clywedog and saw the ospreys nesting and visited Strata Florida via another mountain road and discovered the lovely little Lyn Brianne reservoir. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Almost wild camping :-)

Fabulous- wish there were more sites like this! Basically wild camping with the bonus of a tap, bin and the landowner's permission! Especially if you are on a budget, this is perfect- £5 a night doesn't add up so quick, whereas some of the expensive sites soon put you back! The site is just a large field, grazed by sheep. Some parts are sloping and some are flat, you might need to drive around a bit to chose your spot but we didn't need to use levelling blocks. We were the only ones there and had complete peace and beautiful sunsets- the view from the field is lovely. We had a bit of a laugh trying to find the water tap, which is on a tree next to the track, by a small shed. There is a bin by the shed too. I just knocked one off the score as I'm not sure where the chemical disposal point was, I had asked and told there was one but I couldn't find it. There was what looked like a dustbin in the corner with some sludge in it- that might have been it? But I wasn't sure, and there wasn't a tap anyway there to wash out (unless I missed that too?). That wouldn't stop me returning though, definitely hope to be back. Mrs Richards is lovely and we had a nice welcome and chat, and there is a super walk down to and along the River Wye. Just remember your wellies as the grass is long and the sheep leave lots of little poos which are hard to avoid :-D

Panoramic views

This is a beautifully peaceful site with panoramic views all round. We stayed near to the top of the field and cooked meals on a fire bucket, walked to the stream and the river Wye with our dog and had a very relaxing holiday. Even the weather was good. Very basic facilities but our solar panels kept the battery topped up for the 17 days we were there. Highly recommended.

A Great CL. Very Quiet.

We visited here for the second time in two years and stayed for 7 nights. I think this is one of my favourite CLs. It’s basically just a massive field in the middle of the beautiful Welsh countryside. It’s surrounded by lovely views with a few sheep milling around; it reminds me of the proper old CL sites I remember as a kid. There’s a nearby river where our kids spent hours splashing about, and they had a lot of fun making a den, playing on a tree swing and eating sausages from the campfire. The farmer is a really warm friendly chap and we had some nice chats. We enjoyed a few short walks from the site and there’s a pub a couple of miles down the road.  During our stay, we had plenty of great days out including a trip to the show caves and a visit to the play farm near Brecon. We prefer the basic rural sites, but maybe this CL is not for you if you don’t like sheep and need EHU and Wi-Fi, but we love it. Despite the modest site facilities, we still take full advantage of the caravan’s modern features and thanks to solar power, have a seemingly endless supply of free electric and enjoy, daily showers, heating, lighting cooking and we even run two tellys! Give it go.
