Quiet Relaxing site 7 miles from seaside in East Devon

This site had changed hands since we made our booking earlier in the year and the new owners had only been in residence for 4 weeks. Despite this the welcome was excellent and in a few moments we were told all that we needed to know about the site and it's facilities. As in the site description ,it does slope a bit and, depending which way you orientate your van, you will almost certainly need some levelling blocks (we carry wood blocks for such a purpose). Paying for the site was quite relaxed - basically, whenever we were ready to pop down to the house. Three miles drive gets you to Colyton for the Seaton Tramway trip into Seaton (free parking at Colyton). Nearer than this is Lyme Bay Cider and Winery - it has a shop too where you can taste the product before buying. Shute Barton house (National Trust) is just the other side of the village from the CL. An excellent site for a quiet time away but plenty to find nearby.

Lovely Site!

Spent 2 weeks here in September 2010 and have to say this is one of the best CLs we’ve ever been on. My hubby rang to ask if we could be placed a bit out of the way close to somewhere we could walk the dog as we have an old dog who is unable to walk very far and the lady could not have been more helpful and put us at the top of the dog walking field which meant we had an entire field to ourselves which was perfect!! It also meant we didn't experience the slope so can't comment on that, but it was well worth the small hike to the shower! The site was also the cheapest we’ve ever been on at £7 per night including electric and awning and incredibly when we went to use the lovely clean shower and toilet facilities, the shower was free!! Although the site backs on to a rather busy road, I have to confess we didn’t find the road noise an issue at all. If you cross over the road you can walk up a public footpath into the woods, which was a beautiful walk. I can also recommend a short drive to the Lyme Bay Cider Farm for some lovely local wares. Reading the other review regarding payment, I have to say that when we received our confirmation letter for the site the lady did state in it that cash payment was required on arrival and she did reiterate that to my hubby when he rang so we were prepared in advance, but we have been asked on a couple of occasions for payment on arrival (we once arrived early hours after travelling through the night at a CL in Tenby and went to bed, only to be knocked up at 7:00 a.m. by the owner wanting payment!!!!!), at sites which admittedly is very annoying if unprepared! All in all a fantastic holiday though on a lovely site. Happy Holidays!!

WE found the welcome very good.. but then after a lot of moving to try and get set up. we were asked for payment. We have been members for over 25 years and have never before been asked for any money until we were ready to leave. and I feel this is something that should be put in the book. as it was cash that was needed these days most people pay by cheque or card.unless you are told in advance that they only take cash. My other complaint was the noise from the road early in the morning.which is just the other side of the fence. The little toilet and shower was very clean and tidy but quite a little way if you are at the top of the field.

A bit on the side!

Stayed one night in March 2012 in our motorhome (7.4m). Made very welcome. LocalPlacesOfInterest: Bit isolated between A35 and Colyford nr Shute Barton; good access; no pubs - 3 mile return walk to Lyme Bay Cider Company; Site: No HS available; very sloping site meant parking sideways on but we had plenty of room; blocks a must; not sure we would entertain this site with the wet weather experienced recently; some road noise; lovely views of the Devon countryside. Facilities: EHU; water and grey waste; nice tidy WC and shower 'block'. Would we revisit? Probably, but would need to be dry under foot (or should that be wheel!)
