Kingfisher Heaven
We stayed at Poplar Farm for two nights on our way down to Suffolk from Yorkshire. The site was easy to find and access and we were fortunate to pitch adjacent to the River Bain. The site was peaceful with some road noise and there are many places of interest to visit in the area - as listed in other reviews. Booking the site was easy and we were warmly welcomed by Fiona.
The unique feature of this site is the abundance of wildlife in and around the river Bain. There is a gate providing access to a small area next to the river - a perfect spot for seeing the numerous trout and bird life. I saw a water vole in the distance - the first sighting in over thirty years. However, the thing that made this site particularly special was the flash of iridescent blue from a kingfisher as it flew along the length of the river. I was so impressed that I decided to book the site again for our return from Suffolk. This time I managed to spend a couple of hours sitting on the wooden seat alongside the river bank and it wasn’t long before I spotted a kingfisher. In all, I had five sightings which makes Poplar Farm a must visit site for anyone with an interest in the natural environment. Perfect, and highly recommended. I even saw a Spitfire fly over on it’s way back to RAF Coningsby and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
