Purlbrook Farm

Our first visit to this CL although probably not our last, we stayed 4 nights. I support all that has been said by the previous 5 reviews although, on arrival, we found the access track difficult to take slowly and it did rather shake up our motorhome. Caution is required when arriving and leaving the site. Forewarned, we travelled much more slowly on the descent and found it a much more comfortable ride. You definitely need levelling blocks on any of the five good sized pitches and nose down motorhomes might find it more advantageous to pitch nose in which may not give the best views over the Frome Valley from inside the van. Caravans should find levelling much easier. Once settled in the views and the fine weather were much appreciated as were the walks in the woods on Shucknall Hill which can be accessed from the back of the large field behind the site. Buzzards were abundant and although we did not see deer, their barks could be heard in the early morning from the site and they are clearly around.

Great Views

Have just spent a 5 day break at this site. Have a twin axle caravan but easy entrance. Care has to be taken when leaving the site directly onto the main road as it was busy. This could have been due to the fact that it was a diversion route for the closed A49. The pitches are all hard standing long enough to take the longest caravan. They are sloping but each pitch has blocks for the legs. The pitches are far enough away from the road with no noticeable road noise. Great views over the surrounding country side. The owners are very friendly and you were made welcome with the right amount of contact. TV reception for those who need it was good. Will visit again.

peaceful with view

Enjoyed a short 4 night stay in a motorhome, with pleasant views and peaceful time. The entrance is wide with a steepish climb on hardcore drive. Each bay is hardstanding with grassed area for awnings. It is on a slope so levelling blocks required. Tidy CL with short grass even leading up to a BBQ / fire pit area also useful as a dog walk. The toilet is rustic with emptying point and bins close at hand. A warm greeting from David and only light road noise during the day. Coffee & homemade cake in the nearby garden centre should see a return visit soon.

February in Herefordshire...

Second visit to this beautiful site, in February this time and despite recent rain, the gravel pitches meant setting up the van was nice and easy. It rained but we also had days of snow covered mountains set against a stunning blue sky. Great outdoor life, plenty of wildlife, peaceful and a very warm welcome. Highly recommended.

Excellent location

We chose this site because it offered easy access to the Wye valley towns and the Malverns. The site is accessed directly from main road and is a few hundred yards up on the lower eastern slope of Shucknall hill which offers some good walks through woods. The site is far enough from the main road to be quiet, with just some low level traffic noise. The views are superb once set up on the hardstanding pitches, although a degree of levelling was required front to back. David the owner was very pleasant and explained he was planning to enhance the site further by installing a path to the service points. Would happily return to this lovely location again.

A nice quiet site.

We were given a very warm welcome on arrival, and soon set up, but we needed quite a bit of levelling on the pitch we choose. Some of the other pitches might have been better but we choose this one for the view across the valley to the hills beyond. We were greeted by a Buzzard calling flying over several times as we set up. The dog enjoyed the field above the site for exercise. There are plenty of places to see out and about in the area, we spent time exploring villages and towns around. Hereford is close by with plenty of things to enjoy.

Ideal Campsite

We recently visited this campsite and couldn't wish for a warmer welcome from the Owners. All pitches had electric, were hard standing with stunning views over the valley and a rather quirky toilet was provided, which certainly puts a smile on your face. The site was on a bus route and within easy reach of Hereford. All in all this is one gem of a site and will definitely return.

Purlbrook Farm CL

Had a very warm welcome from David and family to this lovely CL on their old fruit farm. 5 hard standings set in farmland on the side of a hill, sheltered by trees with fantastic views of the Black Mountains. Yet to be properly discovered as it's not in the book. Not the best for families with children but if you want a base to explore Herefordshire this CL is absolutely wonderful. Can't wait to return
